I already got a set of 16x7 rims. Ultimately I would like to upgrade the tires for better performance. I have decided on Yokohama AVS ES100 but it woudl appear that 225/45-16, 225/50-16 and 225/55-16 will all fit on the wheel while 225/50-16 will be the cheapest out of all 3...

which out would be better? I already read the faq but I am still not sure.

the 45 aspect ratio tire would be the best to retain stock diameter. I don' think the prices would vary too much

I have 225/50-16's on mine. My car is a daily driver, and with VT roads I really feel like a 225/50 is a better handling tire than a 225/45. If your local roads are free of pot holes and generally flat... go with 45's. If you have to deal with changing road conditions and want a little more comfort go with 50's. I wouldn't go with 55's ever. On a 225mm width, it is going to be too much diameter.

The 45 series is going to be the best bet.

Hmm.. 225/45/16 on a 16x7.0 wheel?.. thats interesting.. I thought 205/55 or 205/50 was what we were supposed to use (I made a previous post today about the 205's).... I have a 16x7.0 rim as well with 33 offset.... will 225/45 rub on coilovers? I have 215/55 and it looks like it might rub because that is ALOT of tire.

Grant, what do you suggest? 205/50, 205/55, 225/50 or 225/45? Keep in mind that the wheel as I stated before is 16x7.0 with a 33 offset, and I will be running coilovers.

also, seems like 225/45 limits my choices to just the es-100's or the s-03's.. I kinda want to run the RE750's.

I'm a fan of the 225-50-16's, they're a good load indexed size(higher than stock), and come with a plethora of sticky tire types.

the 205-45-16 will work also, but there's less selection.-chet

no rubbing issues with coilovers?

Also earlier today I was thinking... 205/55 up front and 225/50 in the back.. same ride height.. would staggering tire help with rear traction as well as cornering abilities? i know that in theory larger rears will give some oversteer... what is this in practice?
