I'm interested in that Apexi. I googled it and found that it was mentioned in several forums and that they were claiming 8 to 9 HP. I'm always weary of HP claims for several reasons, non the least is that they are trying to sell something. The reason I'm interested is that it looks like a step up to the grounding wire kit that apparently works wonders on the G. (You can search NICO for info on the grounding wire kit if you want more info).

pk, if you decide to do it, do the Apexi first and report back please.

They are probably reporting the HP as it registers on their dyno, that is, at the rear tires. Hardly anyone ever takes an engine out and puts it on an engine dyno. The drive line, transmission and rearend, as well as the accessories all tax the actual HP of an engine.

Many mods don't add to the 330 HP of the engine, they just restore power that is lost by less efficient systems. If you want to increase the 330HP, go to a S/C or a Turbo.

Yes, your warranty will be thrown out the window.

A stock G37 will probably see 265-290WHP, depending on the dyno.

Since the greatest friction individual loss is the tires to road interface, obviously different tires will result in differences. Same with tire temperature and fluid temps.

Impossible to say what normal is just a statistical range of averages. And you need to test 25 identical units to get close to accurate.

So why even say it has 330 hp?

Because the motor will make that on an engine dyno, but once you hook up a full vehicle to a chassis dyno, you get the toll that mechanical loss, friction, and heat energy produced that come from the drivetrain and and wheels. Most vehicles will average 15-20% power drain once you get the output at the wheels. AWD usually see 18-25% loss.

Yes, the motor makes 330HP but that is at the flywheel, not the wheels.

Different magazines have put the new GT-R on a dyno and seen near 480hp so Nissan is blatantly under rating the motor's out put. Sources estimate that to be at 530-575HP.
