Well yesterday I went and picked up the truck ]2edeye posted about....
on the way there some yahoo decided to run up on to the tow dolly

only dented the fender but wasted 2 hours!
got up there and was suprised to find this truck in this shape

complete E-1 motor/trans...60hp emblems...steering wheel center cap...flared fenders are really straight...

got it loaded up and went down the road and noticed the passenger rear tire was wobbling....pulled over and found this:

looked like someone either took off or tried to put on the tire and forgot to tighten the lug nuts...sat so long they rusted and when I did the tire inspection before we left I overlooked it!
It could have been very dangereous...I went to Kmart and bought some WD-40, sprayed the heck out of it and went to dinner...

It took me forever to tighten the nuts as I didn't want to snap a stud or strip them out...

not even a 1/4 turn at a time forwards and backwards but I got them!
55mph the whole way back...less on the smaller roads...
we finally got home at almost 1am!

It has a straighter bumper than the one I just picked up for the 320:

and the dash has all the knobs! the 223 dash is a welded part of the truck

check out these tail lights, blinkers and the bumper:

anyone know what these seats are out of?

they are on runners and have a catch to flip them forward...not just the back but the whole seat! someone hacked up the mounts for the passenger one so I gotta find another one as they are super comfortable!

I love how the doors and hood stay all the way open:

love the wheel flares...

let me know what you think...should I save it or cut it up for parts??
The reason I ask weather I should cut it up is there is a paper discrepancy....
title says 320, frame says 223...
what sucks is that it's one of only 113...

G'Day, Don't you dare cut it up! That is a bloody pearler of a ute. I love the flares, it just needs the rear done to match. The body line around the guard has already provided a good starting point. If I didn't have to get it across an ocean I would gladly take it off your hands. As for the seats, morris minors use to flip forward as well, probably the same era. Are you sure they aren't original? Did those bad boys come with a bench seat? I'm clueless. :D Just don't let her die! Maybe do a rego resto on her, no cosmetics.

I can hear her screaming- Help me!

cheers

Thanks for the support Matti...
I just need to find the site again that has the repro data plates...then all would be good...
it defanitely came with a bench...only 2 runners on the floor and these seats don't match up to them....

anyone else see this:
DATSUN PICK-UP 120 SERIES 1955

The 120 Pick-up was also sold as the Small Transporter. It was based on the 110 sedan. It had an 860cc 25hp 4cyl. engine.
Like these bed flares?

I just gotta find a few parts like the blinker units for my 320 and a grill for it...
we'll see...

G'Day, over here we just sign a stat dec. and take it to the cop shop for stamping of a new chassis no. Yeah, flare the rear like that bad boy, only on the 223 the bed comes right down level with the cab so it should look even better. If you can't find original blinkers for the 223 try some morris minor glass parkers with an orange bulb or perhaps the narva combo I used. The grill looks like a reasonably flat area to work with so a custom stainless grill would look a treat. Getting excited yet? Keep her going.

Thanks...
'40 chev blinkers look like they would work as those Morris ones are kinda rare arouind here...
I might just try to find a good frame and swap on the body...
I was thinking of a custom grill as the stock one will be almost impossible to find....

G'Day, if the engine is an e1 does it have the same chassis as a 320 or are there major differences? If you swap the body onto another frame it would probably be worth while taking messurements for any future engine/ drive train conversions. You might find a CA20E out of a nissan pintara comes awefully close. (Just don't use the pintara diff. hehe) Any way throw up some pics as they come along. I haven't had the time to start on my morrie so that crazy itching feeling is starting to get the better of me. Somebody hand me a spanner, PLEASE!!! Post pic's.

cheers

the frame measures the same at the front  width wise...
the only differences I could see from below were mainly with the cab mounts but those would be easy to change...
strange thing is I got a title for a 320 with the truck...
what I really need to find is a 320 frame and title that match...

G'Day, I know it's a bit dodgey, but can you stamp the chassis number for the 223 into a ground out 320 chassis? It's easy enough to do, not too legit, but you're the only one who will know. This way the title and frame match. You'll be removing the heritage of the original 223 frame tis all.

cheers
