I just purchased a 1960 221 Pickup. Can you all tell me the differences between the 221s,222s, and 223s? Mechanical as well as visual - interior/exterior. Placement of lights, mirrors, etc.

ThanksMuch,Chris

actuly there are many differences between them. as far as i can tell the horsepower is increased each model and minor difrences in shape and structures. you can look at them at earlydatsun.com. i have a 223 but its not a 61' like the year it was sold mainly. it is one of the first off the line. probly sold in the fall of 60'. in what shape is yours. mine is mising a few athentic parts.

I'm not sure how to describe the condition. I'm pretty sure it has aftermarket taillights (I've not seen a photo to know what belongs back there). Mine has round lights stuck on the side of the box. The driver side mirror is broken off and missing. It has one attached to the fender now. There are a few holes from where 'things' were attached. Some dents and bruising. The rockers and floor are the worse of the entire truck. It also has an electric fuel pump on the inner fender. That's all I can think of now. Its still at the haulers place. I think mine should have been a '59. But didn't I read they were dated as sold?

Here's a '59 that sat in the backyard for a while. Some of the details in the pics may help?
VIN tag info was: Type LG220, Model For Year 1959, Engine Capacity 988cc, Max Hp at RPM 37 HP 4600RPM, Wheelbase 2520 mm, Engine No. Cxxxxx, Car No. LG221-x-xxxxxx.
Sorry quality not too good. These were scanned from 4 x 6 color prints - remember those? I may have some more, but let me look for em...

Charlie69 -
No, I couldn't get the truck registered to get it back on the road because of the paperwork. That, along with a move to a smaller place, so I donated the truck to a fellow Datsunfan who grabbed all the usable parts. I think he had a '60 or '61 stored away in Nevada. The frame did had some very deep rust, and heavy rot around the windshield and other areas. But I'm still regretful. Sorry guys, I failed to save this one.

I have a 1960 Datsun 1200 48 h.p. pick up, the serial number on my trucks ID plate reads 1960 PLG 222-0-00228 , the engine number of the block & plate is E05294, 48HP 1189cc . Your truck looks like mine, engine running??

Though I've not heard it run, the guy who hauled it from Maine to me actually drove it up and down his road (no brakes). I thought that (brakes) would be a good start to spot. Not being a mechanic I tend to procrastinate. Have actually listed it on Craigslist for sale.
