if u could pull out about 400 pounds off a base model s13 (no a/c) then u'd be in the 2300 range.

i thought that the trunk version ( non hatch ) 89 was around 2500-2600 lb range, i know i can take 250 off with just the interior but i wanna get as close to 2000 lbs as possible. i am trying to get a better power to weight then an ultima GTR. 550+ rwhp Ls2 is gonna go in it so i need it as light as possible

Uhh..I guess you could go into carbon fiber as well. How much cash do you have? You could pick up a CF hood and hatch.

under 2300lbs is definately possible, but not as drivable for a daily driver, if its a track car or weekend car you can do this by stripping the interior and getting rid of sound deadening material on the floor, no a/c or components, take out everything behind the dashboard like heater core a/c **** andthe blower motor. take out all emmissions garbage and swirl control valve and plug every vacuum port up except fuel pump. get an aftermarket exaust and headers, take out front bumper support and foam, lighter wheels and low profile tires(probably some skinnies in front), get rid of all interior panels, electric seat belts(get lighter racing seats and harness), convert all powerstuff to manual(locks, windows, ect.) leave out all seats but driver seat, get rid of spare tire and crap like that, no speakers or deck, get carbon fiber hood, hatch and doors, and get rear window and 2 rear seat windows removed and replaced with lexan, new suspension, and you should run about 2100-2200lbs. oh also stuff like aluminum pullies, no power steering, no alternator, aluminum flywheel, and carbon fiber driveshaft should all increase performance and reduce decent weight too. then you should definately be at 2100lbs...with the stock engine with intake, exaust, headers, plugs&wires you should be running 13 sec 1/4 miles. my auto s13 dohc ran low 15 sec 1/4 miles with those mods and a reduced weight just over 2400lbs. i can't wait to hook up my 75hp shot of nitrous, should be good for mid 13 sec 1/4 mile.

if i were you i would just shoot for 2400lbs cause if you're gonna have 550+whp with even stock weight you'll be running 10 second 1/4 miles with ease, chop off a few hundred lbs and your in the 9's. good luck with that traction lol.

i have my car down to 2350, i still have Tar and all factory glass in place with no CF at all, blower motor and wipers in place still for track use, just i ncase i need them, which i have so far. If i go lexan windows (not front) and remove all the tar, i will be sub 2300...but then when you add in 7 pnt cage im back to around 2400. I dont plan to go with any CF products because wheel to wheel racing has its bups and grinds....id rather be able to replace my fenders really cheaply, because i know i will be doin that exactly.

and power wise im aiming with my race engien to be around 350whp on 15psi and 10:1 compression, so it will be a very responsive engine alogn with a decently light car track warrior with faster than H1 speeds.

i just have trouble believing the 240 can get that light, Enjuku did an absolutly fantastic job on that car, its awesome, just the weight seems much lower then i can imagine, unless my car is in all actuality much lighter then i thought, ill find out over the sumemr when i go to my next NASA event ill get on the scales again to find my true current weight.

who is Matt Back?

I guess i would be much lighter alrady if i wasnt so worried abotu needing the things i am purposfully leavign in....blower motor and jazz for windsheild defrost on cold and rainy track days (which do happen). And my wipers for rainy days, i have tried Rainx, but wasnt happy with its results. Id be in the sub 2300 area now if it wasnt my fears of foggy wet windows ruining my track weekends .

Their car is wwwwwaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy past where yours is.

Door skins only, Lexan / no windows, no heater, wipers, The chassis looks acid dipped, FG hoods and bumpers, Strange brakes, Z uprights. the works.

Matt Back is Enjukus driver.

only thing i still have in my car is the 4 speakers, door panels, front seats, dash(empty behind it), my deck, and the wipers&motor, i took out the washer res cause i can always stop by a gas station and wipe the windshield off if it happens to get smeared with something like the rice spewing out of the cars in my area.

i know their car is the next step, i had my heater all out and wipers all otu at one point, but put them back in for rainy track days, so far i have used them twice. If i had the Enjuku budget my car would be right there also with the internal resivoirs, lexan windows, full cage. But becaus ei decide to keep some things for the track i wont ever be that light i guess. And in the end is does cost money to be really light, all CF and FG panels, light weight metals, race parts and such, so it comes down to how much do you wanna spend to and how far you wanna go to be light?

how come the one thing noone ever mentions when reducing weight is the gas tank???? if you swap out a 4 or 5 gallon tank from the stokc (13 or 14) gallon tank that also removes a bit of weight........ they r rather heavy after all not sure of exact wieght but full probly close to 100 lbs. jus my .02

it depends on the racing...i keep my tank abotu about 1/2 tank....which is roughly 8 gallns, fuel cells overall would save some weight, or even help balance teh car depending on mounting location. But a 5 gallon tank would not be enough for track racing, plus its one of theose thing of, why change what works, teh facotyr tank setup works perfect, a fuel cell and associated parts is big money.

its a good thought nonetheless, but just not as beneficial in the end, unless you wont the lightest car possible, some race series dont allow modifed fuel system also.

i understand its in no way efficient. but he said he is going for as light as possible.. lol i figure why not. thats odd that they wont allow it in race series...lol i had no idea. how much does the stock tank weight neways/ ne1 know?

Well my friend had an s14 and if you wanna lose alot of weight then take out carpet, back seat, scrape the glue inside the car, scrape the sound proof spray under the car (gets very very loud), take apart dash and trim any extra brackets inside the dash (if you dont need a/c then take that out for sure), Take off all the extra **** thats not needed in the engine bay (emmisions crap), and trim the supports in the inside of your hood, take off bumper supports (not needed, but ur car will crumble if you crash it). I've done this to 2 of my freinds cars and it made a huge difference, but I hope you arnt using this as a DD car (IT gets real loud, like I couldnt hear the person next to me). You might wanna put a roll cage or something after this hahaha.

eek trimming supports! lol yeah not on a dd, but then again i'm not rockin a front bumper support...so cheers for having low crash test ratings!

by the way, did anyone know that a stock 240 has a 5 out of 5 crash test rating for the driver and 4/5 for passenger...thats pretty good i thought it would have been much worse.

Yep 5 star safety rating. I can vouch for it as one of my local buds fell off a cliff and lived to tell about it.

Yeah you could see the transmission hanging on the side of the cliff. A couple days later it was taken. The guy's never been quite the same...one thing to expect from an s13 though if the accident is severe enough, you will break your legs. Wasn't just that guy I saw break his legs, but a few other locals.

9 second 240? isn't that physically impossible even with 550 hp?

possible, but probably not street legal. If you have a 2100 pound rwd car, 600hp, and a really good pair of slicks 9 isn't out of the question, you ahve to be a great driver though too. I've seen 240's with mid 10 sec 1/4 miles with that weighed in the 2400-2500 pound range with just over 500hp pushin at the wheels...add 100 or so more hp and a subtract a few hundred pounds and I'd say you can have a 9 sec 240. I'd like him to prove me right..but only time will tell, i'd love to see a 9 sec 600whp 240 with an ls engine in it.

exactly 550whp probably won't get you to a 9 sec car, 10 sec yes...i was getting excited about the ls2, tons of torque, and a really light 240. but who knows, maybe someone can do it.

lets nto get off topic here to omuch guys, this is mostly abotu teh lightweghtness that a 240 can actually get ....unless your on a budget, then your lightweightness is limited to stock body panels and such.

as for the LS1...big HP 240 out of an LS1 is done, but someone took the liberties of doing a ghetto job of wiring and ziptieing verything in sight. Cool motor, great power, but crap swap job, and ugly efffffin engine bay....
