There is an extensive thread on adding keyless entry to a '23 base model. I didn't want to add this question in there in case others wanted an answer to this without reading through that thread. All of that behind me, here's my question. After getting the key fob and getting it programmed, how does one make the electronic trunk pop function? Admittedly, I haven't looked to see if I have wires to plug into an actuator for it to be that simple. I'm just wondering if anyone else has attempted this with a '23 base yet. If there aren't wires, does anyone know how to wire one in?

I know parts of that keyless thread got very tedious, but if you look back on pages 2~3 there's a BCM diagram and a description of what you'd need, including part numbers for the electric lock and the mating connector. If the wires aren't there you'd need to add one pin to the BCM connector and route one wire to the trunk.

When I originally scanned through that thread I apparently missed the technical part of that. I did see that someone asked about it, but I didn't see it was completely answered. Now I just have to tinker with the car.

FYI, this doesn’t work, there must be an additional component needed, I purchased the 3RA0A accuator, the missing electrical pins to slot 103 & the electronic trunk release, ran the wire through the car and connected everything together….NADA, no open

Checked for voltage, none is present at the 103 slot when pressing the release on the key fob, tried tapping, double tapping, holding for 3,5 &10 seconds and no go

It's likely the '23 BCM just isn't quite identical to the '21, it must have the vestigial radio circuitry but not the relay for the trunk-popper.

Looks like there is a separate “intelligent key unit” specifically for the trunk release not equipped on the S models

That's not quite it. The opener request switch at the trunk goes through the I-Key Unit, but the release solenoid and trunk lamp both go through the BCM. We know the BCM's have RKE, so either the RKE software in the S isn't set up to recognize the trunk button on the fob, or they simply omitted the release relay from the BCM mainboard. Either one means the release output on the BCM won't work.

Oh ok, I was misreading the separate system for the trunk mounted button, duh, didn’t think about that as the S doesn’t have it, looking at the wiring diagram and I don’t see any other relays, just the output to the CAN system so if it’s software related I should be able to find the option in Consult

Also there are 3 different BCM part numbers showing
2020-2022 (all models) 284B1-5RL1B
2022-2023 (all models) 284B1-5RW0A
2023-2024 (all models) 284B1-5RW1A
So at least it looks like the BCM is common regardless of trim level

If it's separately configurable, yes. It may be bundled with the I-Key configuration, and if that's the case you're probably SOL. I'd think the BCM would freak out if you tried to run an I-Key config in a vehicle with steel keys.

Post where in Consult you found it. Other people might need the dealer to do the reconfiguration. It will save a lot of digging if they can point the tech directly to the correct tab and option.

@thasman, can you post where in Consult you were able to set the control module to activate the trunk switch? Thank you in advance!
