My 2023 Rogue has an issue with the backup camera. Sometimes the display goes blank for a second or two while I'm backing up. This is a little disconcerting while the car is moving. I usually have to stop and wait for the display to come back on. No other issues with the display other than backing up. It only happens occasionally but that it too much. Any know issues with this or do I have a special Rogue?

You might need a firmware update. You can check that yourself. With the audio off, hold down the Menu button and twiddle the Tune/Scroll knob back and forth. You'll get a service menu, select Confimation/Adjustment -> Version Information. The first 4 digits of Overall Software Version are your ver number. For a non-navi it should be 5188, for a navi it should be 5192. If it's anything else then you have dinosaurware and need an update.

The first four "digits" are 283C. That seems a long way from 5188 (non-navi). I bought the car in July and the doorframe tag says it was made in May. How do I get the firmware upgraded?

I think you're looking at the wrong line, that's a head unit software number. The second line down in the display should be Overall SW Version, that's the one you're looking for:

I’ve tried this at least a dozen times and I don’t get any of the selections you indicate. Only thing I can find is the version number in the System Update menu.

That's weird, ASIST doesn't list any other software check for any of the gen3's or any other ver numbers for the '23's. Is the car USDM, or are you in Canada?

Then I dunno. The bulletin is very specific and lists all the radios from S to Platinum. Are you using the service menu? If you access it with the "info" soft key, it won't give you the same information as the hidden service menu.

I don’t know what the service menu is. As I said before, I didn’t get anything you indicated when I followed your procedure.

The service menu is what you get when holding down on Menu then twiddling the tuner knob back and forth. There's no other means to get complete version info, even with a scanner. If you can't access that, then there has to be something wrong with the radio. Try cold-booting the radio after the car has sat for at least half an hour, and make sure the Audio is off. It won't enter the service menu if the Audio is active.

I get a lot of selections when I follow your procedure, just none of them are Confirmation/Adjustment or anything that I recognize as like it. I'll try the cold-booting later this morning and report back. Thanks for all your help.

I found a link to the update bulletin in NHTSA, this will show you the illustrated step-buy-step. You're performing "Software Check 5". The NHTSA copy is old and doesn't show the '23 updates, but here's the updated page applicable to your ride:

Then you'll need it updated at the dealer, the S models can't do over-the-air updates. You should probably call first and make sure they have the AIV131_5188 USB stick already downloaded. The downloads take about an hour and partly tie up a computer, so they're very inconvenient to do on regular shop time. It might save you a trip to verify that they already have it.

Software updated yesterday. Technician said he had several problems with his Pathfinder. Updated the software and everything went away. I'm guardedly hopeful.

It's an old story, they're always pushing new AV stuff into production before all the bugs are out. Not just Nissan, everybody. When the Bosch AV's first came out in the '14 Altimas, we went through three bulletins and four increasingly-less-buggy versions before they finally got it right. People actually got buybacks on a few of them because it went more than the three visits allowed by most lemon laws. Seems kind of silly seeing cars bought back over an issue like that, but it's the way of the world these days. Hopefully you won't need to repeat the exercise like they did. Myself, I hold my breath every time they add a new feature to these things.

I know the story well. Back in the days when I was gainfully employed I was an IT project manager. Management wants it yesterday and IT wants two more weeks to get all the bugs out. Neither gets their way and the consumer gets late products with software glitches.

Just curious as I'm in Canada - would this procedure work for my 2023 Rogue SL to check on the firmware version and if so what should the current version number be ??
Thanks in advance...

ASIST doesn't say explicitly, but I think It should work on Canada models. For a non-Navi the current update is 5188, for a Navi it's 5192. For a Navi, you should be able to hook the car to your home WiFi and do an OTA update yourself.

Thanks again for your help. Thought I'd give an update based on my experience here in Canada.

First time I tried the ""MENU" & toggle it didn't work - I suspect an "operator error" because next time I tried it worked and allowed me to get to the right place.

I'm thinking that the Canadian versions may be different...

My Overall SW Version shows 5352 22 05 2023 which is considerably higher than the 5192 that you mentioned for the Navi model.

I've never used the method which you suggested but it is fantastic in that it gives a treasure trove of information - some of which I admittedly don't understand - this is where i play the "seniors" card - I'll be 80 in November this year.

I have always checked & updated the software thru the touch screen & it now says that I have the latest version of the software.

Just thought I'd share this for what it's worth....
