Hey so I found this site looking for problems with the plastic oil pan on the Nissan Rogue 22 and up and I just wanted to share something with you all to look out for with this pan. So I own and work a quick lube and one of my regulars came in with a brand new '22 Rogue. After 15 minutes of pulling out the plastic push pins holding up the belly pan I see this brand new plastic oil pan. I don't think a whole lot about it, I just grab a 14mm and put it on the plug and pop it with my other hand. Righty tight lefty loosy. On her's facing the back of the car it drains to the passenger side and I popped my wrench to the front of the car. So the plug doesn't come out, the whole plug and thread insert comes out. Whoever installed this plug must have over tightened the plug, that's all I can think. My first thought is I am screwed. My second thought is to get her and check the miles. Sometimes these plugs will sink in tight if they've gone way over on their oil change. She had her last one done at about 4500 miles at the dealer and she came to me at a little over 10,000 so not crazy over at all. If you look closely at the picture I posted it looks like that is a Nissan supplied crush washer that I believe was designed specifically for these oil pans. It has what looks like a split down the center. The common copper crush gaskets for Nissan plugs are solid. So what I'm suggesting is get that factory crush washer and find out the specified torque specs on that drain plug. Really what I'm suggesting is replace that plastic pan with a metal one as soon as someone offers one. Ford has a plastic oil pan but they did a plastic quarter turn plug as well. This pan with a pressed in thread insert is crazy. So now I have a new shop rule, We don't do oil changes on the Nissan's plastic oil pan.
