One thing I’ve never had is remote start on my car, which after moving out here to the Canadian prairies is a must have for the winter. Wife’s 2017 Murano SL has it, and now I do, but the remote start on the fob is so hit or miss even from just a few feet away. Is there anything that can be done to improve this? I have the 6-month trial for the phone app which is great, but not sure I’m willing to pay $30/mo or so for that ability after the trial ends.

The remote starts don't generally have issues but you do need to follow the procedure exactly, one short press on the Lock button and then within 2 seconds hold the RS button till the car starts. There are also a few rules and some circumstances when the remote won't function, such as 3 starts in a row or if another fob is in the vehicle. This TSB covers pretty much all of it, there are model variations but the general content applies to all late model Nissans with RS.

Try the lifehack of increasing your car's remote range by placing your keyfob under your chin and using your noggin to increase it's range. This works when I wanna lock or find my car when it's quite far in the parking lot. I use it once in a blue moon.

Not sure if it works with remote starters. You could give it a try though. Sure beats $30 a month. Tell us how it goes.

Actually you have to press the lock button twice not once and press the start button within 5 seconds after that holding it for at least 2 seconds.
