Is it safe to reconnect the battery after disconnecting and removing the side impact air bag switch in the door? I am installing power locks and power windows so I would like to have the power on but don't want to risk any unseemly and expensive air bag explosions.

All I can say THAT'S SERIOUS BUSINESS , and ya better get safe & PROPER advice here , and get more than ONE opinion , like if it's easy to hunt down a nice honest dealer body mechanic.
BE SAFE ............and I'm not talki'n about F 'n Covid here :lolling:
p.s. It most especially has danger in disconnect and reconnecting these things - there ARE specific procedures ,OK. :yesnod

No, it isn't safe. Remove the fuse for the airbag brain, then you can reconnect the battery and turn the ignition on without worrying about the bags.

See .....looks like ALL power MUST be OFF (battery & associated fuses disconnected) when disconnecting OR connecting OR "fiddling" with ANY SRS airbag location !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right VStar ?
VStar ,would maybe wrist ground strap be a good caution , like the procedures handling delicate Mosfets and circuit boards ??

Kill the battery first and always when working with bags. Fuses can spark invisibly, fingertips can spark from static charge, etc, etc, etc, Short cuts can lead to the earth-shattering kaboom.

Generally speaking, discharging yourself frequently to the body of the car will suffice. Just touch bare metal, such as the door stopper. Static discharge is the main concern.

Just to be sure I understand:

Disconnect the battery
Remove air bag fuse
Remove air bag sensor in door
Reconnect battery and do whatever I need
Disconnect battery when done
Reinstall air bag sensor
Reinstall air bag fuse
Reconnect battery

This correct?
