So I tried contacting my dealer, but they say there are no recalls regarding the 2018 Rogue and the dangerous software installed.

In certain conditions, I haven't been able to replicate it 100% of the time, but when you are on a phone call using bluetooth through the system, when you hang up the system will use the volume-settings for the call ( which typically needs to be at 100% to hear anything ) and replace the volume-setting for radio or usb music playback ( which typically is at 6 or 8 setting ) resulting in ear-piercing super loud and painful music being blared at the occupants. Additionally, the volume knob will be unresponsive for at least 5 seconds.

Nissan dealership won't update the software without paying a huge amount of money, despite this dangerous bug existing and there is no guarantee that it is fixed.

Another bug which is more of an annoyance.

If bluetooth is enabled, shortly after receiving a notification on screen that the phone is connected, all touch input will be rejected and no longer function. Physical buttons work, but you have to hold the power button for 10 seconds to turn the system off, then turn it back on.

It basically makes bluetooth unusable.

Has anyone manually updated their own software in their Rogue? Does the dangerous condition still exist?

The '18's were part of the R1911 recall. If your software isn't the latest (810) then there should be an open recall for your VIN and the dealer can update it free:
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2019/R ... 4-9996.pdf

To check your version, from the main toolbar select Info -> System Information -> Software Version. If it isn't 810, the recall was never performed. If it is, please be aware that about 99.5% of bluetooth connectivity issues are caused by the OS in the phone and not by the car. When your phone is paired, it's the boss, not the vehicle.

The issue happens on both Android and iOS devices. I'll check the version, thanks.

Additionally, the infotainment would have control over the volume in the vehicle. The phone can be turned up or down and that can affect the vehicle, but with the phone all the way up the infotainment has to be turned all the way up to hear calls. The issue is in the software on the infotainment because it handles the in-car volume settings and it has an issue with the hand-over from the saved call volume setting to the saved radio volume setting.

Current software version XXXX
Last checked, today on manual. Can't seem to download anything either via the built-in system.

Downloaded version information to USB and I get this

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<HUIDS>
    <NAVIUNITID>0TI2NIX2</NAVIUNITID>
    <VERSION>0614_180121</VERSION>
    <RELEASE>0614_180121</RELEASE>
    <MAIN_VERSION>0614_180121</MAIN_VERSION>
    <BUILD_LABEL>AI_PRJ_RN_AIVI_16.4V36</BUILD_LABEL>
    <FCID>0054</FCID>
</HUIDS>
Which is definitely not 810.

The last time I was at the dealer, I asked and they said there were no recalls for my vehicle. Is there a way to download the software at home? The instructions seem simple, but my vehicle will not download any software through the infotainment system even with the vehicle running and connected to WIFI.

You should probably find out if the R1911 recall was performed at some point, because if it was, then it sounds like it didn't complete properly. Version should never come up as XXXX, it's always a number. So if somebody screwed up the recall, they need to redo it for you. If you want to PM me your VIN, I can check your service records.

PM Sent, thank you. And yes, it shows up as XXXX which is why I downloaded the software information to USB.

The only recall it had done was the ADAS/Radar reflash back in Nov of '19, and the dealership was correct, there are no open campaigns. That leaves me very puzzled about your XXXX, because it's completely abnormal. I'd say either you have a bad unit, or it was replaced at some point and not configured properly (they all need configuration of some sort or they won't generally work right). If you want to PM me your email, I can send you a PDF of the "version check" instructions to make sure you're looking in the right place.

Attached are where I went. Info > System Information > Software Version

And I think under software update is where I was able to download the USB information.

Yep, that's the right spot. It should be saying a number between 0140~0154, or 0810. I'm thinking that radio must have some bad flash or a configuration issue, because the only time you usually get a "null" version is with a brand new unit that's still in factory mode. When it's connected to WiFi, you say the Software Update function isn't available or isn't working?

It just updates the last-checked date. It doesn't do anything else.

That means it thinks there's no update available. For some reason most of the update utilities just go "duh" when there's no update, they don't display "no update available" or anything more explanatory. I think you must have a bad unit.

I contacted the dealership and gave them the information on the recall and that it should apply to my vehicle and gave them the version from my software as XXXX and 0614 when it should be 810 and they said they'll get back to me.

If they aren't able to find anything, does anyone have a copy of the software that I can try myself because $250 for a software update is way too much? Windows PC service techs charge $75 to install and update Windows with saving data, formatting, and data restoration which is a lot more in-depth than turn on the vehicle, plug a device in, let it run and update for up to 25 minutes and remove the usb drive when prompted that the update is complete so the unit can restart.

Update: She called me back and set me up with an appointment but said it was to check out the recall, but I guess we'll see. June 3rd.

Sadly, it isn't for distribution and I can't pass it out without violating employee confidentiality (which I won't do). If there's anything already out on the net, I don't know about it.

Update: They said it doesn't fall under warranty or under the recall and wanted to charge $206 for the diagnostic and $250 for the software update which I wasn't about to do. I'm trying to contact Nissan USA now. I've already filed a safety complaint with the number in the back of the owners manual ( both government and Nissan ) to hopefully get the recall applied to my VIN. It sucks they allow over the air updates but won't do it if the software version shows all XXXXs.

For now, bluetooth must remain disabled.
