The drain plug is on the black transmission pan.
Fill with a funnel at the dipstick tube. You can remove the cap.
Even when you remove the drain plug, and all the fluid comes
out, there will still be a ~quart in the pan. This is because
the plug landing is raised up, and has a 1/4" collar that is also
raised up, for about .5" of rise, which means it all won't drain out:
NISSAN PROCEDURE:
Drain, Fill (4 qts), start car, idle in "P" 5 seconds, Brake; "R" 5 seconds, "D" 5 seconds, "P" turn it off.
Drain, Fill (4 qts) , start car, idle in "P" 5 seconds, Brake; R" 5 seconds, "D" 5 seconds, "P" turn it off.
Drain, New Plug Gasket, Fill, start car, level procedure, DONE!
This is why is costs $288+ at a dealer. This is so you will have > 75% fresh fluid.
I just fill it cold until fluid comes out the level hole, and I let it go till it
drips. Then I put the level plug back in and I am done. A half pint over
won't hurt anything. Walmart has the 4-quart Castrol CVT jugs for $24.
IF you have the miles, then do the pan drop and filter change after the second fill,
so your 3rd fill will be with a new filter. You will be putting about 5-quarts in
with the pan drop. If you do the NISSAN procedure without a pan drop, you will
need three jugs of CVT fluid. IF you do the pan drop on the 3rd fill, you need an
extra quart.
