Just bought a new to me 2018 S, 2.5, 11k miles. Last car was 97 with 220k, time to move on. Thought about 2019, but too new, new motors, lots of stuff I do not need (AWD, electric nannies), no CD player, not even an option.
So, they recommend Syn, 0w-20, but 6 mo. 5k m? That seems absurd, especially since I do no city driving, but deal with desert dust. So, I have a Nissan CPO with 84 M warranty, which, in theory, require this insane policy with even Mobil 1.
So, how do you guys deal with this? It seems to me than 1 year or 10k would be conservative enough. As I read on another post, this is a serious waste of resources, money.

0w-20 is solely to support the companies EPA claims.
EPAs mpg tests are biased to short trips.
SO companies want to use the thinnest oil possible but EPA only lets them if they recommend it.

My VQ engine in the US is recommended as 5-30 but in Europe its recommended 5w-40.
I dont dare go a year or 10k miles between changes unless I runt he Mobil 1 extended filter with the extended drain interval oil.. AND a viscosity rating less likely to break down such as a 5w-30 or better a 10w-30.
And even then I get a bit nervous about it.
