I can buy an aftermarket transmission dipstick for my 2018 Rogue. However it states therein not to leave the dipstick in the tube. Is this a valid warning?
I ask because my 2005 Murano came with a dipstick and the dipstick just "lives" in the dipstick tube. You also check the fluid while warm and idling on a level surface.
So --- if the Rogue level check procedure is the same wouldn't it be ok to leave the dispstick in the tube?

It's fine to leave it in so long as it has an o-ring seal. You should also calibrate it first before trusting it. If you know your current level is good, take cold and warm reference readings to make sure the stick marks reflect reality. If you're not sure, do a spill-and-fill using the leveling plug and then take references.
