So my MIL was sideswiped in her Rogue a few hours ago. No injuries, but side curtain and seat bottom airbag both deployed. There's also some frame damage at the B Pillar. What do ya'll think - total loss, or repairable?

NOW your insurance WILL (highly likely now :lolling: ) Insurance NOW will give you an UNBELIEVABLElY HIGH $$$$$$$$
totaled , and you'll have more money than you dreamed AND MORE MONEY THAN ANY OTHER SUGGESTION .

She has full collision. I'm sure they're getting lubed up for the premium increase as we speak. Guess we'll see how it goes. :ohno:

You DO get what ya paid for.......like BEST PAYOUTS = Ins Co's that will provide $$$100k / person "MEDICAL PAYMENTS" , ONLY the top FIVE anymore.
SECOND BEST is ones that offer $$75k / pers. Med Pay .
Ones offering $50k / pers. Med Pay is where I draw the line as to INS Co's ABILITY and TRACK-RECORD of paying
Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

All this is just a " generalized indicator " of BEST TOTALLED $$$$$$$$$ to the insured !! see

Mr T told me to " Pity the fool that buys cheap - crappy insurance " .......................... :spitout:

If I get a windfall from a mediocre Ins co , my opinion now , I let them runnout , never let then KNOW this .......then start shopping to high hell for better rate at a BETTER Co :lolling:

Top tier insurance possibly better to stay, , be prepared AS SOON AS you are shown their greedy increase to argue " I'll go w/these other guys" they cost $$ xxxx LESS than your increase even , exit stage right

The damage to the B post+airbag deployment means there is a good chance that this Rogue will be totaled. However it will be up to your insurance.

The damage at the B-pillar is fatal. On Nissans the Bag Brain is basically digitally-destroyed by a deployment, so at a minimum you're into a Brain, a bag, a seatback, two doors, and a whole lot of frame work. Book on a pristine '17 is only $12K, and insurers usually total at 50% of book. With the frame rail crushed, that's a lot more than $6K of damage. I'm afraid she's toast.

Looks like KBB retail book value is roughly $20K. It's the SL that's loaded with the panoramic moon roof and lane departure stuff, and only 45,000 miles on the odometer. Apparently we total at 75% in SC. Can you see $15K in damage there? If it was mine, I'd prefer that they total it - because it'll never be right. But for my mother-in-law, I selfishly wouldn't mind if it's fixed, because I won't have to go through the oh so fun experience of helping her shop for a new one.

This was totaled and looks less worse than yours. 150k miles and 2016 model year.

Wow, that just looks like a door! Must have been more than what I can see.

It was the B Pillar that got tweaked along with the door. A Ford Excursion was not put in park by the meth head driver and it rolled down hill into the innocently parked Rogue.

The door wouldn’t open. It was really tweaked.

The B-pillar is the problem. It's hours and hours of work to straighten that crap out, then make sure the body alignment is true, then get the doors fitted correctly, then alignment and paint. You're probably looking at way more than $6K just for that. Then about $3K for the seatback, $800 for the bag, $500 for the Brain, $150 for the satellite sensor, $200 for the garnishes, $200 for the rocker trim, and we haven't even got to the doors or shop labor yet. It could easily hit $15K unless you let them use JY parts.

Not sure why you're talking to her insurance company. If she was hit, you need to be talking to their insurance company unless they didn't have any or you're in a "no fault" state.

Maybe my initial description of "sideswiped" implied something I didn't intend. Unfortunately, it looks like her insurance will be picking up the tab for this one. I wasn't there, so I can't speak definitively about what happened. My role is just helping her navigate the process.

It's one reason I always try to buy trucks. Even though they suck on gas, they are not unibodied construction and are more repairable. But I keep my vehicles much longer than most people so this doesn't really matter to normal people who get new cars every 6 or 8 years. I assume any unibody vehicle that gets hit hard like that is not going to be very repairable.
