I just got a notice that the Infinity 2017 map update is now available for $149. The last time I updated, it seemed like a waste of money. No significant enhancements to compare with my Garmin Nuvi.

Anyone have any experience with the new improved 2017 map update.....or is it more of the same old same-old.

It's usually a POI update. You won't notice many new roads, etc. unless your area is expanding rapidly. So, if you travel a lot (long distance) and need the most up to date list of gas stations, eateries, etc...then it's worth it. Otherwise, no.

I just updated to the 2016 maps, but my old nav info was from 2011-12. There has been quite a bit of expansion on the highways where I live and have to travel to work. Previously, before the update, I would be driving in "space" in certain areas - no road indicated. After the update, roads have suddenly appeared, so it was definitely worth it for me.

The disks usually go on sale to $99 later, I think usually a few months before the next year comes out. Might want to wait until then unless your nav info is pretty old.

I agree. Yearly updates seem like overkill to me. I get an update every other year. I just feel that there cannot be much to add to the maps in 12 months. However, like Ilya said, if you do lots of traveling in newly developed areas (if there are any), then you should consider yearly updates. Thankfully, it's not a huge expense. My headlamps cost more than an update, LOL.

And then again... we have Google Maps in our pockets (the people with Android phones anyway). Which is a thousand times better than the built in navigation. :)

Ilya, someone has already done it and posted a video of it on youtube. I think you have to purchase some type of converter and install it in order to do the Chromecast. Don't 100% quote me to that cause it maybe wrong but there was a video posted here showing it being done.

It's doable now, but I don't think you can chromecast google maps can you ? You can do it with the adapter that injects a video signal into the center monitor, a HDMI to composite adapter (that your plug your chromecast into) and... that's about it.

I meant more so an OEM designs a way to integrate with an Android (or Apple) phone...full screen share. Without 3rd party gadgets and gizmos.

Yeah I know.... that would be nice. I drove a rental Sonata the other day and it had a Google Auto stereo in it. Man that was awesome. In a piece of s*** rental nonetheless... Not in my 60K luxury sedan. Sigh.

I might try to see if some of my software engineer coworkers can make something like this for us.

It's really a hardware issue, not something a software engineer can code around :)

This. Plus, even if they had the hardware expertise, it would take a months to properly do...unless they are REALLY good coworkers lol.

GM and some other manufacturers have Android Auto and IOS Auto available to stream a lot of the phone to the radio. Im not sure if Maps is a feature that you can stream.

Of course it is. It's pretty much a core feature of Android Auto.

I've been using my in-car navigation alot recently and discovered that some roads in the area where I am based now is not on my car's navi. I checked the version and it is the 2010-2011 map update (an early 2012 production year M37).

I decided I'll spend the money and see what this does so I just placed my order. I also looked into XM Traffic, but I can't justify spending the money for the XM subscriptions. I'm happy with my Bluetooth audio and using Google Maps if I'm ever in a traffic pinch.

To be clear most Infiniti vehicles use Sirius "Nav Traffic". Yes there is a difference because Sirius also offers XM traffic. Nav traffic is outdated and has limited market area coverage while xm traffic (like the traffic flow in Chryslers, Audi and Ford) has great coverage. I live in CT. With all the highways and parkways here, only less than 50% of rt 95 has traffic data. If you lived in Hartford you would think the Nav unit is defective.
I called Sirius and complained about this - they admit the difference and gave me 1/2 off the annual subscription. Now when on my highway trips, the iPAD air covers the nav screen giving me Google Maps and WAZ.

I should do that because I pay for NavWeather and NavTraffic. Those two are a rip off, satellite radio is nice though.

I used to get Navweather and traffic included in the 6 month deal....so a couple of weeks ago I did the 6-month deal again and this time the weather and Traffic is not included... :tisk:

I upgraded last year. What a waste of money. Never again.

I like in LA so I never use the navigation anymore. Using Waze on the phone is the only way to go! The XM traffic is a joke.

I still use XM because I like the factory integration. If you call to cancel, they will keep lowering the price until you agree to stay on. I usually get 6 months for under $30. I've done this for a couple of years now. They offer it to me every time. I do the same for my wife.

It's coded to your specific radio...so, in theory, there would be no need unless you downgraded the maps somehow. They don't self destruct or anything Mission Impossible style :P.
