Considering a new 2017. I think I did all my "homework" on making this choice. There is just one thing. I can't seem to find new info on this. There are plenty of info on the issue of coolant mixing with the ATF. I read one review dated around 2014 that said Nissan is addressing it. But it never said what was the fix. Or maybe I missed it.

Today is 2017 and I'm considering a 2017 Frontier. Have any of you heard or read about this issue on later models? Was there actually a fix or redesign to address this issue?

With the automatic transmission equipped, there is an auxiliary cooler for the transmission that uses the engine coolant. When this component fails, coolant mixes with the trans fluid and things go bad.

This was primarily in the 05-08 model year range, after which a fix was implemented, but I cannot recall what it was. I do know that Stillen (at one point, not sure if they still do, I haven't looked in a while) offered an external trans cooler that is a great preemptive fix.

That's all I know for now! I want to look further into it as I may be truck shopping myself, but if I buy a Frontier, I'm getting a 6MT Pro-4X, and those aren't equipped with that trans cooler.
