I yet hadn't messed with my 2016 yet with modifications, but maybe you can try an alternator from a Titan or Armada. Those are pretty huge vehicles, which makes sense that they must have a bigger alternator. If that doesn't work, you can always carry a battery charger.straxxus wrote: ↑Sun Aug 26, 2018 12:20 pmHey all, I have recently installed an aftermarket sound system including subwoofers+amp into my rogue, and have noticed my battery voltage coming out low (12.1v with car off) after driving for a bit with music playing+A/C running. I figure I probably need a High output alternator to keep up with the 1200 watts of subwoofer I have installed, but cant seem to find a direct replacement for the stock alt anywhere. Some websites dont even show the rogue as an option for an aftermarket alternator. I was wondering if this was because another vehicle uses a similar or the same alt as the rogue, thus the aftermarket places only carry the one model. Has anyone done an alternator upgrade on a newer rogue, and if so what alt did you use?
Yeah if I run the car without the stereo going the battery comes back up to 12.8v with car parked/off without any issue (with car idling I read 13.9v from alt, so I dont think its going out), I know I'm pulling more amperage than the stock alt can provide, thus draining the battery. The purpose of the post was more to see if anyone knew of a source for a drop in replacement for the stock alt as I have had trouble finding one that explicitly says it is compatible.Rogue Jarhead wrote: ↑Sun Aug 26, 2018 3:43 pmA healthy battery should be between 12.5-12.7 with the car off just sitting in your driveway. Most batteries fail in the summer but most people don’t realize it till the first cold snap of fall.
It is possible that you installed the stereo wrong and it’s just drawing too many amps. Pull the fuse and drive around for a while, see if your battery recovers to the healthy range. If it does you probably have to much stereo for the car, which leaves you with 3 choices.
1. Take the stero back out.
2. Find a bigger alternator.
3. Buy a new battery every couple of years.
You might check someplace like rockauto, they may have an up graded alternator, but I’ve never looked.
If you battery does not recover to a healthy range, it’s probably dead it’s just waiting till the first cold start of this fall to tell you.
What does your multimeter say when the car is running sitting in the driveway? With the vehicle at idle your battery should read somewhere between 13.5-14.3, that’s the charging voltage.if your alternator is providing that much charge with the stereo running that’s sufficient to keep your battery charged.
A dying alternator provides less than 13.5v with the car running, that could also be your problem. If this is a 2016 I wouldn’t think the battery or the alternator would be ready to die yet. Troubleshoot with the multimeter and see what the readings are.
Ultimately you may have to pull that stereo out and enjoy the blissful sounds of silence.
I had considered an aftermarket battery in addition to the upgraded alternator, but figured getting just the battery would be more of a bandaid fix if im not getting enough current from the alternator to both run the car + amp+ charge battery.casperfun wrote: ↑Sun Aug 26, 2018 3:51 pmSorry, I don't know about alternator upgrades but have you ever thought of getting a optima yellowtop? They last over 5 yrs on my Rogue. Just got a new one last yr to play it safe.
It starts at 14.2 volts after starting ignition. And gets to 13.4-13.5 before turning off the ignition
Just cleaned my terminals and getting 13.9 volts consistently as an average now where 13.5 was my previous average.
I run a pioneer with video screen, 2 dvd video players attached to headrest0 that inputs hmdi for kid's youtube from my iphone.
Iphone running off dvd player power that is running off car battery.
Charging grandma's phone when she is riding with me.
Running front & rear dash cams.
Running 4 input rear mirror monitor.
Running high view always on rear cam as my rear view mirror.
Running back up cam near rear license plate.
Running child cam to observe baby seat, child grown up now but still use.
Running 100 watt aux driving lights with amber covers at same time with headlights because drivers here are blind as heck. To be seen better.
Running aux rotating car fan directed to kids in back and myself at times.
Running garmin gps all the time.
Running air conditioner during summer.
All of these running 100% time no problem on my nearly decade old Rogue & original alternator.
This in addition to the base electronic needs of your run of the mill nissan rogue.
Yellowtop is great for running alot of electronic accessories.
Thanks for the suggestion, ill have to check and see if mounting is similar enough to be viabledatechboss101 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 26, 2018 5:38 pmI yet hadn't messed with my 2016 yet with modifications, but maybe you can try an alternator from a Titan or Armada.
