good morning to all
After reading 6 browser tags with different posts about spark plug-related threads, the time has come to change my wife's. She's near 80k miles and yes, I know that they are rated to last until 105k or so. I also know that there is a good possibility that when I remove the old ones, they look perfectly fine and clean and I may feel disappointed.
But, for a $60 - $80 relatively simple job of replacing them, why not, right? Or maybe I should wait to get closer to 90k miles?
These are the key points, and I ask for your corroboration:
THE PLUGS
Brand: Use iridium plugs by Denso, NGK, Autolite, or the brand I've seen as a child, Champion. Ruthenium??
Socket: Long 14mm or 9/16th with the rubber bushing = for spark plugs
Plug tip gap: do not calibrate or mess with
Two questions
1. Is it wise to clean the area around the coils with something BEFORE removing the coils? The area is bound to be dirty, so why not clean it a bit with something so that it doesn't fall into the plug hole?
2. Can the inside of the coil head be sprayed with something to clean it up? I read in one of the posts that someone mentioned using PB Blaster to clean the coils; I may have the product wrong and I can't find the thread that mentioned it.
THE CLEANING OF THE THROTLE BODY
This looks fairly simple and that it can be done without removing the piece. I read that I can spray the little door (whatever it's called) while someone accelerates at the same time.
Is that a correct statement?
Removing it is not a big deal, but then I will have to relearn the idle and something else.
Thank you as always,
