I have read through the owner's manual, inquired at the dealership, searched the internet and this forum and I cannot get a straight answer on what oil type comes in the Rogue from the factory. Is it Dino, a Dino/Synthetic blend or full synthetic? I know the grade is either 0W-20W/5W-30W but I need a straight answer so I know what to expect or provide when I take it in for its first oil change. I am coming from a 2012 Frontier and it had Dino from the factory. Sorry if this has been addressed before.

who cares? just put in what you want. the engine has long been "broken in".

usually from the factory its never synthetic. most engine manufacturers use dino

I think 0W-20 is only available in synthetic or synthetic blend. No idea if the car comes with this from the factory though. I just know the dealer typically puts in 5W-30 during a standard oil change, which is probably conventional. I'm switching back to 0W-20 synthetic and changing the oil myself once the dealer freebies are over.

The reason I ask is if it came with Dino from the factory is when I take it in for the oil change it will be cheaper to stick with the Dino. If it had synthetic I was going to bring my own oil so I don't get billed big $$$ for the synthetic oil change. Either way I think I'll just buy the synthetic and pay them for the labor, filter and crush washer.

usually new engines are build with dino.
regardless, it doesnt matter. you can mix and match. heck, you can do 50/50 every oil change.

I mentioned in an earlier post the dealer I contacted said the Rougue comes with O/20 Mobil synthetic oil. I just had my first oil change.....the service manager repeated this but said it was up to me whether I wanted conventional or the synthetic. He did not push me one way or the other. I went for the O/20. This cost a total of 112.55. It included filter, oil disposal fee and taxes.

:facepalm2

That is basically a 320% markup or $77 for labor. I highly recommend learning how to change your own oil. It is very easy. There are write ups on this forum and videos. Safety first ;)

My 2015 manual says"• As an alternative to this recommended oil, SAE 5W-30 conventional petroleum
based oil may be used and meet all specifications and requirements
necessary to maintain the New Vehicle Limited Warranty." Since I only put about 8k miles/yr on my Rogue and need to change it more because of elapsed time than miles, I'm going with reg oil.

my advice t you: with your driving, you can change it twice per year: Nov & May. this way you are changing it around the 4,000mile marker and its always 6months in between.

i always do 5,000 mile changes, and i do about 25,000-30,000 miles per year. (using conventional, except mid winter when i change into 0w-30)

my dealer told me is has 0-20 syn. blend. I plan on switching to Mobil 1 full synthentic after my first oil change at 4000 mi.
