2016, new battery, cranks a while before starting sometimes.

If there are no codes, the most likely culprits are a dying fuel pump or a spotty cam or crank sensor (most likely cam on a QR25).

Thank you. No codes in this case.

I understand fuel injection vs. carburetion, but would it make any sense that if they pumped the gas 3X while cranking that it might start?

No, there's no accelerator pump in an EFI system. Pumping the gas just works the throttle butterfly open and closed, but doesn't add any fuel. If pumping helps then maybe it has a sticky throttle plate or a rich condition which is fuel-fouling the plugs.

Agreed. That was my point about understanding FI vs. Carburetors. Might be time for a tune up and an upper injection cleaning.

When you clean the throttle body, use the right technique. Never force the butterfly open against the spring, instead have an assistant floor the pedal with the key on to let the ECM open it for you. I use a toothbrush wetted with TB cleaner, the most important area is the bottom (back) edge of the butterfly.
