I bought a 2016 Rogue SV about 6 months back, and I check my tire pressures regularly. I like to inflate them at 35-36 psi cold, but I have noticed that the car just keeps dropping that air to its recommended 32-33 psi and keeps it there on its own. This usually happens within a week of inflating them. As a result, mpg is also affected quite badly- 13 to 16 mpg on city.

Is the TPMS doing something to cause this? Or am I just doing something wrong? I practice the same thing with my 2011 Civic as well but that holds the pressure.

I am pretty sure that it's not a leak, as it happens evenly on all 4 tires, and they never drop below 32.

The letter "M" stands for Monitoring. Your TPMS is passive, it does not deflate the tires.

1) Over inflating your tires is NOT recommended.
2) Invest in a good quality tire pressure gauge. Do a search of this forum and you'll find the discussion.

2016 Nissan Rogue - Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with Easy Fill Tire Alert

If so equipped, you can check the pressure of all tires (except the spare tire) on the vehicle information display screen. The order of the tire pressure figures displayed on the screen corresponds with the actual order of the tire position.

When adding air to an under-inflated tire, the TPMS with Easy Fill Tire Alert provides visual and audible signals outside the vehicle to help you inflate the tires to the recommended COLD tire pressure.

To use this system, ensure that the vehicle is parked in a safe and level place and that the parking brake is applied. Place the ignition switch in the ON position, but do not start the engine.

Add air to the tire and after a few seconds, the hazard indicators will start flashing.

If the hazard indicators do not flash within approximately 15 seconds after starting to inflate the tire, it indicates that the Easy Fill Tire Alert is not operating.

After the correct tire pressure is reached, the horn beeps once and the hazard indicators stop flashing.

If the tire is over-inflated more than approximately 4 pounds per square inch, the horn beeps again and the hazard indicators flash 3 times.

well it's winter time and cold air affects your tire pressure. Tire pressure will decrease about 1 psi for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit the outside air temperature drops. The opposite is true when the Fahrenheit rises.

So if you are in cold weather climate this is most likely your issue.

It's probably the cold weather affecting it. Recently, I put all of my tires at 35.5 psi when it was around 40 degrees outside. After the pressure settled, I usually see around 32psi cold when it's 30 degrees outside and I've seen it as high as 35psi around 60 degrees. Also, as I drive, the tire pressure goes up 2-3psi. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Also, city mileage is usually atrocious in the winter time. I usually average 17mpg in the winter with 80/20 city/highway driving in NYC.
