Just bought this car brand new in January. I am OCD, so I've kept it clean and tidy, wash it once a week, wax once a month. As far as cosmetics, my biggest issue is with the gauges. I've only cleaned it once with Aerospace 303 and a microfiber towel and it looked like I tried to clean it with steel wool. Looks horrible, very cheap plastic. The pictures attached don't give it justice as far as how bad it looks. I haven't cleaned it since and that was months ago. My bigger issue is that I'm having these spots form UNDER the glass, and they are increasing throughout time. It's starting to affect visibility inside the gauges. Anyone else have this problem?? I'm reading that more and more cars come with this cheap glass.

I had a 14 year old Mercedes whose gauges still looked immaculate by the time I got rid of it, this is just pathetic to look at.

MIne are the same way. They scratch super easy even by rubbing a finger on them. I tried to use some Novus plastic polish and conditioner but it didn't make it any better.

Update: So I dropped off my car at the dealer today to see if what looks like a defect gauge was covered under warranty. I was surprised to hear that they are actually replacing it free of charge under warranty.

Had mine replaced a few months ago and its not really any better than the original one. If it was an easy piece to DYI replace, I'd apply a sheet of clear 3M before installing it.

Not sure how I found these (I've been looking for these ever since I bought the car): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Dashboard-P ... FB&vxp=mtr

I guess the bigger question is whether it's worth it to risk it putting it on. Not putting it on right could just as easily add scratches you're trying to prevent in the first place.

Save your money. I bought the same thing thru AliExpress and it was a pain in the arse to install. Because the cover is curved, the film fit ok in the centre but the side pieces did not fit properly.

Thanks for the heads up ... Did you keep it on?

I'm having my glass replaced this week or next ... Should I consider installing the plastic before it is installed? Or just don't install it at all?

I removed it b/c the round pieces did not fit properly due to the curvature of the plastic cover.

you would think the Novus #1 plastic polish spray or similar would help prevent scratches. My VW's gauge cover is the same way...it will scratch if you look at it wrong.

I've had mild success by saturating the plastic cover in Novus spray and then use a glasses cleaning cloth. However, lately, I have left it alone and the dust build-up isn't too bad.

I hate it when auto manufactures skimp on parts to save a few cents. Honestly, how much would scratch resistant gauge covers be?

After getting mine replaced, I'm gonna have to agree. It's not much better. Dealer installed it, you can see fingerprints behind also. At least I know not to clean the glass. Just horrible how cheap the glass is. I'm surprised it's not more complained about.

Bumping to the top...

Update...So my OCD is kicking in and it's looking like crap again. I'm going to order the part, apply a 3M film to it and install it myself.
For those interested, it's part number 248134BA0A
