I live in Florida, bought this car new in January. Ever since I bought this car, I've noticed how inconsistent the A/C heater is. My biggest issue is when it is "cold" outside - it blows hot or warm air no matter what temperature I set the A/C to. I did not have much of an issue in the summer so I thought it was working fine. Now that it is getting cooler and "cold" here in Florida, I'm seeing the same issue come up again.

This morning, it was 39 degrees outside and if I set the inside temperature to anything 62 degrees and above, it will blow hot air. Setting it to 60, will blow warm air. The other morning, the car was reading "61 degrees" outside, it felt warmer than 61 degrees. I set it to 66 degrees inside, it will try to warm up the car.

What I think the problem is, is that the car gets confused or tries to balance the temperature outside with inside. So if the car thinks it's 61 degrees outside and you set the inside temperature higher to anything 61 or above, it will "warm up" the car. This is not ideal and gets uncomfortable after a few minutes because it's hot air. To me, if you have the car at 66 degrees - it should be blasting cold air, not with this car. If I wanted warm or hot air, I would set it to 75 or above.

I showed it to the dealer manager last week and he said "not to sugarcoat it, but that's how these things work." He said he has a lot of people complaining about it and that's just the way it is. To me, it is unacceptable and I'm trying to figure out my next step. So if anyone who has had a similar experience has fixed this somehow, I'd love to hear. Thanks in advance.

I don't have the second generation Rogue, so the following is my theory:

When the car has a dial version of the AC control (no temperature), it has a flap type which control the mixture of hot and cold(outside) air, resulting in warm/hot feeling.
But with the newer version which has a temperature setting, instead of doing that, it just have a full heat/cold, and stop the heat once the inside temperature reach the set temperature (on off value instead of adjustable one).

This will explain why you got full heat when the set temperature is higher than outside temperature. (I will let others with more knowledge to confirm or denied my theory)

That's a good theory (and I wish it worked like that), but unfortunately the temperature inside doesn't change unless the temperature outside changes ... at least in my car. So if it is 40 degrees outside all day, it will blow hot air the entire car ride basically (no matter what temperature it is set inside).

I moved to FL in October, and have yet to understand why the people down here ride around with their windows up All The Time.

Make sure your system is set to recirculate, that should solve your problem. If not, you may have a defective sensor.

Windows up or down is irrelevant to the problem of a properly working A/C. I've used about every setting possible - auto, recirculate (on/off), etc. If it's cold outside, it's gonna blow hot air ... as of right now, it's just more comfortable to leave it off. I'm going to get a second opinion at another dealer, but my local dealer said sensors work properly and blowing hot air (at any temperature) is just "how it works".

 Never said it was. I was just making a general observation.

I didn't think you meant it like that way, but you'd be surprised at how many people (family, friends) I've complained to that have said "roll down the windows" as a possible solution lol.

Anyway, I'll have a second opinion at a different dealer tomorrow.
