Wife got a 2016 V6 Frontier a couple of years ago, just got concerned about the water pump. Another site directed me here, so I signed up.

Welcome! I've moved your topic to the truck section to get responses from owners familiar with your vehicle.

Is there a specific reason why you're concerned about the water pump? A quick search online turned up no issues with water pump on 2016 model Frontiers. There were a few posts about this on older models, but it doesn't seem to be an issue for 2016's.

Are you encountering problems with the water pump?

Slightly disturbed it's driven by the timing chain. If I'd realized that when she bought it I would have vetoed the V-6, and we would've gone for the 4 cyl, or a Toyota, or an older model Nissan.

Y'all'a horde of service manuals is a tremendous resource. I've spent about 3 or 4 hours this afternoon downloading all 57 chapters on the 2016 Nissan Frontier. Very helpful.

There are only V6's in Nissan and Toyota trucks. The V6 in that truck is bullet proof for the most part, there were issues in early versions of this VQ engine with time guides, that is completely solved in yours. I had my timing guides replaced at 68k under warranty and I elected to replace the water pump since it was all taken apart. You will not have to do anything to the water pump unless it leaks, but should last 10 years at least.

what those guys said.. Despite some early subpar timing chain guides used in some of the early model year motors, any post '11 Frontier V6 is just about bulletproof.
I beat the heck out of my VQ40de same motors as yours, in a '11 Xterra, the SUV version of the Frontier, and it runs perfect.

It sees 100 mph a couple times a week and not just with a little dip I would go faster if it wasnt for the tires and the tippy nature of an SUV..but driven once a month on a longer trip at 90-100 mph for tankful in a row, (which some slowdowns to 75mph for sweepers and 60 mph for construction zones about 1/4 the time)
145,000 miles on it..No oil consumption, no over heating.. nothing.

Been doing it for about 18 months now... yes I am not in the US.. it gets 90.7 Octane fuel (in US Octane units.. its the lowest they sell here) but it speaks to the excellence of these engines.

I have 97k on my 05' and only issue I had were the coils packs that I had to replace that were a little expensive but I only 87 octane (doesn't seem to help running higher) and I drive to LA at 80-95 MPH for 5-6 hours straight and she never misses a beat.
