Anytime you go down in wheel diameter, you want to increase the sidewall to try and maintain the same overall circumference. Keeps speedo and odo more accurate and helps prevent serious suspension & handling issues.
For a 17" wheel, you'd want a 225/65 tire.
For a 16" wheel, 225/70. ASSSUMING that the 16" wheel will fit. It looks like there is enough room over the brake rotors that a 16" would work.
The 16 is prob a better choice if it will work. More Winter and AT tire options and probably cheaper too.
