Hi everyone, new to the forum so great to find it!

was going to upgrade my gfs speakers for christmas and had a few basic question. she has the sv hatchback. was wondering if the stock radio would be able to push 4 new speakers or if i would need a new head unit as well. we are on a budget so trying to do something affordable. the stock speakers that came with the car leave much to be desired. shes 35 mother of one so shes not looking to rattle the car to pieces just wants better sound.

Hi and welcome to NICO Club!

The stock head unit will push low to moderate speakers, but not the high powered expensive stuff. When shopping, look for RMS numbers (nominal) below 50 in 4 ohm speakers. The head unit probably pushes 15-20 watts RMS. I did the opposite for my wife, added a head unit and used the factory speakers and kind of liked it. Ours was a base model though and had no head unit.
