I bought a 2015 Rogue with 64k miles. Everything is good except i have discovered that the oil level goes down one quart per 1000 miles. This is not acceptable. There are no visible leaks anywhere. Confirmed by dealer. There is no visible smoke from the exhaust at any time. confirmed by dealer. I replaced the PCV valve as recommended by dealer. Last check was at 1500 miles. It took 1 quart to refill it. Better but still not acceptable. Any suggestions? It should not be rings or valve seals at this mileage. Dealer says we don’t know. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sounds like maybe you bought a sludge motor that somebody flushed out in order to sell the car. So "should not" doesn't mean anything. To start, do a wet/dry compression test and don't trust the valve cover or any of the PCV plumbing.

Agreed that I should do a compression test. That was my next move. Why do you say don’t trust the valve cover or PCV plumbing?

The PCV airflow has to pass through baffles in the cover, and any blockage there or in the PCV hoses will have the same effect as a stuck-shut PCV -- namely, sludge.

OK, that makes sense. I appreciate your input. I’m an old school guy so these Nissans are a new education for me. This Rogue is an ok vehicle except for the oil issue. For me 1 quart down in 1000 miles is not acceptable and there has to be a reason for it. The usual culprits aren’t there so I’m grasping at any straws that I can find. Thanks again for your responses.

My 09 Altima did the same and I bought it new with 3-4K oil changes. I swapped out the engine for a low mileage shortly after Nissan replaced the cvt under warranty. I figured the rings probably never seated. The pre cat wasn fully in tact so it wasn’t that. More than likely, someone neglected it and it’s sludge like vstar said. I’d try the new valvoline clean and protect oil which is supposed to clean the engine back to like new, or if you wanna spend some money try hpl lubricants 0w20 which is liquid gold. I dealt with it for close to 100k with next to no issues or improvement and Nissan kept telling me it was acceptable.
