About three months ago the rear powerlift rear hatch stopped working on my 2015 Rogue. Tested everything we could in that system and everything checked out. Figured it was the lift shock with the electric motors but didn’t have the $700 to replace them and wanted to be sure. Two weeks ago the alarm starting going off at random times through the night. Then the passenger side front door was throwing a door ajar message. Took it to Nissan and as I was waiting in it with the engine off the door ajar error came up and the alarm went off, obviously the alarm is going off because it thinks there is a break in from the door being “ajar”. Nissan runs some preliminary scans and replaced the door switch on that side with no results. They wanted $700 more for a deeper dive which I refused to pay.

I had the aftermarket remote start removed to try to isolate the problem. All of the issues went away immediately and the back door even worked. Problem solved, right? No, next day back hatch won’t work. Three days later the alarm started going off and the door ajar error was back. Then I figured out that if I turned the headlight switch to manually on the door ajar light would immediately trip. Turn them to manually off and door ajar would go back off, like clockwork.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've lost my mind!

Peel back the rubber boots on the door umbilicals and inspect for fatigued or broken wires. There's a small percentage of gen2's where the "half-twist" in the door harness goes the wrong way. The twist is intended to let the wires coil-uncoil instead of bend-unbend, but when the twist is reversed the coiling action just fatigues the whole bundle. Sounds like both your front door harnesses may be compromised.

Thanks, I'll have some time this weekend to give that a try. I'll update the status as to what happens.
