Maintenance book suggests brake fluid change at 10k for extreme conditions. They consider expressway driving in Chicago extreme. I would say dangerous but not extreme. Anyway, when I asked if not having it changed a 10k would void the warranty he evaded answering. Is this just a way for the dealer to get $$ from a free oil change and tire rotation service?

Yes. They are scoundrels hoping to find a fool with money. Unless they are using some kind of especially lousy brake fluid. I've never heard of such a short brake fluid change interval except on a race course where they may change the fluid for every race.

10K is extreme. However, brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it attracts water. The interval I've heard most often mentioned on auto web sites is somewhere between 2 and 3 years.
