Can you remove the subframe without supporting the engine with a hoist? I want to replace the rack and pinion on my qx60.

If the nose and tranny mounts are both in good shape, yes. If you have any doubts about your mounts, use a support bar and not a hoist. Much easier.

Thanks VStar650CL for responding to my question. I was able to get the rack and pinion out without messing with the subframe. I did remove an engine mount (which is at the center of the rack and pinion) and used a floor jack to support the engine while I was working under the car. Disconnecting the high pressure steering fluid line was very difficult. It is all done now!
