2015 QX50 Question

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I read an article talking about the 2015 QX50 going back to the 3.5L , 297-hp engine for better gas mileage purposes. Do you all know if this is true? It's all good, just interesting to hear about a car maker reverting back to a previously-used engine.

Not true!
2015 model will still offer the same 3.7 engine with 325hp & 267lb ft of torque
To be released around mid of 2014

Redesign is set for the 2016 year model

I think the article is jacked up.

It says the name is new for the 2015 model, but it is new for the 2014 model.

The 2014 specs on infinitiusa.com state:
The QX50 is envisioned to stir confidence and respond with a liveliness that will make driving simply fun. With a 325-hp 3.7 liter V6 with 267 lb-ft of torque, you'll notice an unmistakable hint of its potential in the dual-polished exhaust tips.

I can't see them using the smaller engine, unless there is a complete re-design and a smaller/lighter vehicle...like the QX30 concept that might not be a concept too much longer... Infiniti needs to put that out there fast to combat the new smaller Lexus CUV. The Infiniti would look SO much nicer.

Exactly...
With the never ending soaring gas prices especially in Canada where this morning premium is @ a record high of $1.60/l or $6/gal infiniti is well overdue to finally propose a base 2.0t engine just like Lexus who is finally dropping their laughable weak & ancient 2.5 V6....
To follow for sure especially as I read that infiniti will "borrow" benz's expertise in turbocharged engines currently in production...

well my pops got a new Mercedes A45 AMG with the 2.0 turbo. It is super peppy and gets great great gas mileage, but I think the EX is a bit heavier... I think they could make it work and up the mileage a good 10mpg

Going to the 3.7 engine was way overdue in the states since there is no mileage penalty for the 10% gain in HP. I have a 2011 AWD with the 3.5 and it is rated the same 17/24 that the 3.7 gets. I don't see any benefit to the consumer in going back to the 3.5, unless going hybrid, which isn't offered for the QX50 yet.
