My Infiniti Q70L rain sensing super will swipe once, the stop. I have to turn it to the medium speed to get it to work, which often is too much.

Think mine is the same way. It senses a certain amount of water/rain on the windshield then activates. Maybe you can get the sensor at it's lowest setting to be a little more sensitive with a complaint to Infiniti service department. Make they can adjust or change the sensitivity.

Unfortunately the rain sensing wipers just don't work that well. I've had my sensor adjusted and then replaced but still just not very accurate.

I had rain-sensing wipers on a 2004 volvo and the technology didn't get much better by 2012. The infiniti is better, but not by much. The volvo would quit every time you came to a stop, so you would have to adjust the sensitivity after every stop light to get it to work again. I find that I have to adjust the sensitivity in my infinity when there is light rain or drizzle. If it's raining hard it works great, but anything less and it's a constant adjustment... I wish they would throw this "technology" away by now, it just sucks.

I agree that this "feature" is more annoying than just having a manual setting.

I had no working rain sensor when I bought my car - it was never applied correctly on the aftermarket windshield (uggh). I used that binary gel that is available for these devices and it worked perfectly after that. I've had no problem with them set in the highest or second-highest sensor setting in anything from light mist to heavy down pour at a stop and at highway speeds.

I totally agree, nice to hear I am not crazy...but from day one I have had to adjust to sensitivity setting to get them to start sensing rain on my window. I live in Washington state (where it rains a bit) :chuckle: The constant adjusting has made me wonder whether it was a bad sensor or just sh**ty engineering. This thread proves the ladder. I still use the feature when there is heavy rain, but hardly anytime else...luckily its starting to dry out after an extra 15" of rain this winter. Love it when its sunny! :dblthumb:

Surprised to see the complaints. The rain sensing wipers on my wife's 2011 M37 work perfectly. If it is raining, they automatically speed up or slow down with the rain. They are awesome.

Unfortunately, the prior owner's insurance company put an M35 windshield on my M37 so my sensor does not work. Because you only have limited settings without the rain sensing, mine is a pain in the rain. It is either too slow or too fast, never just right.

You can test yours. Just grab a hose and spray the sensor. If it is a Q70, it should be under warranty if it is not working properly.

Agreed with this statement. No problems once I fixed my rain sensor.

No problems to report here either. It works great and adjusts good too. Check the gel on the sensor that, more often than not, tends to remedy the situation, also applying a water repelant helps a lot.

Can you point me to where to look? I am a new owner of this car and not really sure where the sensor is located. Also water repellant to the sensor or windshield? Like RainX ?

Sorry had to be more specific. Water repelant on the windshield.

The sensor is in the top middle of the windshield (right next to the rear view mirror).

Is there a way to bypass the rain sensor and just use the intermittent wipers which has been a great system.

Its snowing here today and my daughter was in the car, it wouldn't come on then they became posesed and looked like the wipers were going to get swiped off the windshield. She laughed and asked if they are broken.

Is there a bypass to turn off the auto wipers?

I have to agree. The rains sense system is ... well... senseless! I had to replace my gel and now it works pretty well. In the rain or drizzle, just about the time I am about to say "why are the wipers not going?" they start. I am still plagued by the rare situation where a gremlin will cause them to sweep madly a bout for a few times before they go back to an intermittent speed. There is NO cure for that.
According to my dealer techs, there is also NO way to revert back to the old slow, med, fast, intermittent system that cars used to have.
My wipers sweep once every time I start the car, and also on very rare occasions, they will sweep once for no reason even in bright dry sunny weather. Its just the price of technology.

I will try some water repentant on my windshield and see if it makes a difference, will be sunny and nice for the next 6 days here in Seattle, Washington. First stretch of sunny warm weather in 8 months! Will see first rain if it improves the response, but like Larz....

and many others my rain sensor has a bit of a mind of its own. I will open up the sensor cover and check it out to see if there is any obvious signs of a windshield change out / gel issues. My car only had 27,000K on it, 1 owner lease return, so its possible the windshield was replaced but pretty unlikely.
Will keep you posted.

Warning! If you pull the sensor from the windscreen, it will no longer work. It can't be re-installed without thoroughly cleaning it out and refilling with new gel.

My 100,000 mile 2011 M56S rain sensitive wipers work perfectly for me. Atleast on my car you can overide the manual system and select a couple different manual speed settings. I NEVER turn the system off. On startup even with a dry windshield they will wipe one time. I actually like that because our wiper blades tend to stick to the windshield in the summer months and tear when you first turn them on in a rain storm.

If a car has the rain sensitive wipers why do they the adjustable section, to save money in sure but the newer cars allow you to turn the rain sensor off.

Wish they did a better job.
