I just got my lease Q70L last week.
over all its a very good vehicle for the price.
I have only one complain about the Q70.. the back up camera has very low resolution, just like from two decades ago.
even the one from my 2007 FX has better image than it.
is it just my car? or I can tune it ? or just the way Nissan forgot to upgrade the camera?

I think the Q70 is quite an old model (released in 2010 as the M?), so the screens are not the latest tech.
They still do the job though imo.

Q70 started its life as the M37/M56 in 2011. However, my screen doesn't seem much different than my 2007 was.

I know there is a diagnostic mode for the screen...forget how to get into it. Perhaps if you can figure it out, you can get into the camera setting and tweak it.

Do you have an image of the output?

Seems odd that they did not update the screen with the 2015 update given that the Q50 was launched with the 'In Touch' screens.

To get to the diagnostic screen;

Press and hold settings button and while holding it turn the volume knob to the right several times. Radio must be off for this.

You can drive with the backup camera on which is fascinating but very distracting, so be careful.

My point was to say that the screen is fine. My biggest issue is the camera gets dirty VERY easy. But right after a wash, the rear view is VERY nice (I see everything just fine).

I must agree the reverse camera in these cars is horrible, my 2010 Altima had a much clearer image. I plugged the Altima's backup cam into the M and it improved the image quality substantially but still wasn't as clear as in the Altima. Its sad Nissan chose to go cheap here. Of the 2015 models I drove - despite being able to split views, the quality of the image is still poor in my opinion.

the image on my 2007 FX is much better than the 2015 Q70.
the Q70 just like there is plastic screen on the camera that never can be peel off.

if it's not a lease car, I think i will do my best to upgrade the camera on my own.
since this is the only complain for the Q70L

I thought the camera looked low quality. Compared to my 08 M35, this screen is terrible.

Not sure it's the screen or the camera.
since the Q70 upgrade to a touch screen. the map showing good to me.
but the image is so poor.

on my 2007 FX, no matter daytime or nitetime. I always can see the numbers on license plate on the car behine me while I'm parking.
on the Q70L, can't even see the bumper line clear..

What kind of plug(s) does it use?

Find a compatible camera with better specs I'd imagine (and hope). Just a matter of figuring out what qualifies a camera as compatible.

I allso have a Toyota sequoia,

I putted a aftermarket chinese $20 camera on it. crystal clear!! (even can see rain drop on the road)
compare to the Q70, it make me believe Infiniti maybe really design the Q70 for the old driver with eyewear. :tisk:

Whoever knows how to do this, please post up a HowTo and we can all improve our optics. I have no issue with mine when the lens is clean, but I love modding so I'll upgrade it anyway if it's not cost prohibitive lol.

Ok, so here I go again. I spent a bit looking into this and this is how I figure an aftermarket camera can be used in place of the poor OEM one. Use at your own risk of course. I don't know if or how this will affect the on-screen parking guidelines.

Someone give it a go (if you dare), I am busy with a DRL DIY.

That was two years ago I don't remember lol. Similar plugs but the body of the Altima camera was different and wouldn't bolt up without cutting so I left it, plus the Altima was a lease I didn't want to mess with it.

of course in photos they look the same lol. In person though, the Altima had a way better image.

Not only is the screen resolution poor but in bright sun light the picture quality degrades further. At night it has better quality. Did anyone else experience the bright sunlight issue?

on your M37 camera, the image can't even shown the NISSAN letters on the badge from the Altima
that's what I'm trying to say.

I noticed as well particularly when the sun is behind the car the backup camera is pretty much useless. Aside from the camera picking up nothing but sunlight, the screen is hard to see with the sun directly on it. Granted, these things can't be expected to be absolutely perfect. The Altima had a better picture, but it wasn't absolutely perfect either, notice how hard it is to make out the bottom word of the dealer tag on the Mustang...

My issue that the newer and pricier car has the poorer performing part in it...THAT I cannot digest.

Hello everyone, new to the forum.

I adjusted the resolution of the back up camera by doing the following:

with the Parking brake on and or foot on the brakes, put the car in reverse and press the Settings button. You should see settings to adjust resolution.

Resolution? Or contrast and brightness? Resolution is usually fixed.

Usually when it comes to this type of problems you have two devices that can cause a bad quality/low resolution image.

The first is your display device or screen. If the display does not have the capability to display a high resolution/high quality image, then there is no use in changing the camera to a different higher resolution one because your display will not be able to show the extra detail you want.
Such is the case in the example used by Altered. The camera in the Altima and the M are probably the same, but with some difference in the wiring I assume, but the screen in the Altima was a better one, able to display a higher amount of detail.

The second, well you guessed it, is the camera. Once you have changed/switched the display device to a different higher resolution one, you can move on to changing the camera for a higher resolution one. The combination of the two will provide with a much better quality image, guaranteed.

My suggestion will be trying the OEM camera on a aftermarket, higher resolution display/screen and check the improvements. Then move on to changing the camera with a an aftermarket, higher resolution one.

I just took a look at the settings described by M37xfan. The Contrast and Black Level should help some people out. You can somewhat see the difference from the first picture to the the third which has the these two settings adjusted.

Nice find M37xfan! :bigthumb:

Parking brake on, Car running, Foot on brake, Car in reverse, press Settings button

It could be a combination of the poor camera and of screen resolution, but both cars display DVDs with equivalent clarity. I've made adjustments to the settings shown above a few times trying to find a sweet spot but it never matched the Altima, I just accepted it eventually.

I just noticed this as well my 2007 M backup camera was much better. although I changed my license plate lights to a whiter LED light now some objetcs look over exposed, or it could have been the sunlight I'll test it more after work

:bump:
Any new ideas/ success stories with improving the image quality? I have played with the settings but it didn't help much.

I took out the camera on my 2011 M with intentions of plugging a 2006 M camera on it to test, but unfortunately the plugs were different. I'll look around to see what other Nissan cameras would be easily tested.
