Hello fellas. Recently, I just bought a brand new Q70. the Studio Surround® sound system in the car didnt do it for me. Wonder if anyone here know a better way to upgrade to a better quality sound. I did my research and came up with this.

Basically, I want to keep all my OEM head Unit and stuff. I will not mess with the speakers either. I am looking to put this bad boy to work sometimes this week. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Kensien, I'm not sure what you're going to gain by just adding a signal processor aside from cleaning up the signal. You wouldn't be adding any extra power with that unit. It doesn't appear to have any amps installed so I can only assume you plan on adding an amp at some point. Debonair has a great write-up regarding this.

What didn't you like about the system? Lack of bass?

The base model (mine) only has adjustments for bass, treble, fade, and balance. Does the studio surround offer actual multi frequency adjustable equalizer? The owners manual makes me think it does not which is nuts for a car at this level.

Adding an additional EQ to the system can make a huge improvement for those who are very particular with their music, especially one as robust as this. I look forward to seeing how this works out. Take some install pictures too please. A full How-to would be awesome.

It does not. Same setup as yours. Just have the ability to turn the audiopilot on and that's it...no other tweaks.

From my own experience and from what I have researched, the system sounds better with the audio pilot turned off.

I suggest some should try it (if you haven't already) before making any modifications.

I agree that adding an EQ to the existing head unit/amp would help but only if you plan to send to an external amp and speakers. I think that the way the Bose amp processes the audio signal is what most people don't like about the system. It does not send enough highs or lows for most people's liking and if you try to increase the highs and lows output by raising the volume you end up with more mid-range than anything else.

I am assuming that the OP is saying he's going to grab the signal from the amp output which is what was going to be sent to the speakers (and which has already been EQ'd by the Bose amp) interrupt it with a digital signal processing unit and then send the re-EQ'd signal right back to the Bose amp only to be re-EQ'd a third time and then finally sent to the speakers. I'm not sure if that would give him the results he wants.

Is the difference noticed when moving, or standing still? I just ran to the garage to see if I notice a difference and I didn't notice one.

I've never been a fan of Bose. I'm going to start off by adding a sub. I have a old sub I'm getting repaired. Couldn't part with my sub, and the price to get it repaired was a lot cheaper than any new good sub today. I'll see how everything sounds after I add the sub. Once the sub comes back, I will build the box for it. I will have my trunk back in the spring time. NO MORE BABY STROLLER..

Funny that you should ask. I have only had this car a little over 3 months or more so I am still experimenting.

So yesterday, while the car was moving, I turned on the audio pilot, the center point is on and I dialed up the surround effects. What a difference. To me the system seems to really shine with the center point on with the surround effects increased.

Kensien, how do you expect to do that? You want to improve the sound without spending a lot of money, AND without replacing the speakers. You'll need to do one or the other at least, or maybe both to achieve a better sound.

You said in an earlier post you were going to try the Helix P six. The statement above implies that you tried it and it didn't work out for you. Either way, good luck and keep us posted of your progress. I'd like to see if you are able to improve the sound without replacing the speakers. Doesn't seem possible to me.

Interesting...Audi S8 comes with a Bose 14 speaker system rated at 630 watts or pay $6,300 for the Bang & Olufsen

Currently, Infniti has the same upgraded system it has had for 10 years. Why hasn't it been upgraded significantly? Infiniti have not asked Bose for an upgraded system. When Cadillac asked for a cutting edge sound sysyem, Bose designed the Panaray. There are many many other cars with systems that are better than ours, but that's because the manufacturer asked them. How oput-of-date is the INfinit Bose surround 5.1? Well there has been Bose 7.1 for years, but we still get the 5.1 with 300 or350 watts (estimated because Infiniti doesn't report the actual wattage anywhere). An upgraded sound system is well overdue.
Compare that to:
Jaguar - Brown and Wilkins - 17 speakers / 500 watts
Genesis - Lexicon - 14 speakers / 500 watts
Lexus - Harmon Kardon - 19 speakers - 450 watts
Acura - ELS - 10 speakers - 440 watts
Cadillac - Bose Panaray - 35 speakers - 750 watts
Porsche - Brumester - 12 speakers / 800 watts
Audi - B & O - 15 speakers / 1200 watts
That said, all of the above are extra cost options on those models. Most, like Inifniti, hide the cost of the sound system inside a 'package' that must be purchased which includes the sound system.
Inifniti offers the Bose 5.1 (which has a newer 7.1 found in other cars) as part of the "Deluxe Touring Package" which adds $3,900 to your sticker and includes rear shade, semi-analine leather, suede-like headliner, different seating, and white ash wood trim. They don't tell you how much the Bose system really costs.
Side note: the new Q50 UK models offer a 'bespoke' 500 watt Bose with Centerpoint-2 surround system and 14 speakers with DAB capability.

It just seems odd to me that Infiniti doesn't publish the watts on their systems

Bose rarely publishes watts on their systems. Bose claims it's because watts can't be used to compare their systems with everything else because of how their products sound and are tuned. I usually avoid Bose products. Polk Audio speakers are my favorite. Sound processing/amps....any big names will do.
