I replaced the ECU and BCM, key is recognized by the car, but it just won't start. It started before just fine, but a few days ago, it simply won't crank. It sees the key, press the start button, it clicks ONCE then nothing.

Can it be the starter? Did I flood it? Something else?

If it's not complaining about security then make sure the battery has enough juice for the starter

yes, battery is fine. i have another q50, same year, and i swapped the batteries, so the battery is def not the issue.

near as i can tell, the starter must have gotten 'frozen' or stuck from either rust or lack of lubrication.. i tried tapping it a bit, but still nothing. next step, i guess i'll remove it and see if i can unstick it.

Swapping the batteries may not help the issue. Make sure there's not a voltage drop, because if it doesn't have the correct amount of juice it won't kick over the starter even if you put a known good battery in it.

You mentioned replacing the ECU and BCM... did you have those programmed? Sometimes those require special steps that can only be done by the dealer to activate. Was it starting fine before or after you changed those?

yes, it started before just fine with the same configuration (after i replaced the ecu and bcm)..

so my guess is that it's the starter itself, it just conked out (i wouldn't be surprised, since it's a flood car - project car for me). but still, it started before and now nothing but the clicking..

Hey,

Stupid question, does the steering work? I once had it where the car wouldn't start because the steering lock wouldn't dis-engage.

I know its seems completely separate, but it worked for me.

Regards,
Andy
