I'm thinking of getting a 2015 Sentra S with 6 speed manual.

My questions are:

- This is the base car. Will I be disappointed after a while without all the modern features and comfort? I can afford more car, but the dealer is offering with a large discount, so I would pay $14K+ for a brand new car.

- If I step up to a higher model, it would be CVT only. I'm not against CVT, but sort of like the fun of a manual transmission. Something different.

- Is the new (current) Sentra pretty reliable? 1.8L engine and the 6 speed transmission? Any issues you heard or read?

- I assume the 6 speed manual is an old shift box left over the the B15 Sentra/Maxima SE days. Is that correct? Or is it a "new" transmission?

TIA

Hi, I bought a 2015 Sentra S with the 6 speed manual back in March of this year. An answer to your first question really depends on what you are used to driving now. I was coming from a 1999 Chevy S10 base model truck with a 5 speed manual. Compared to the S10 my Sentra is like an Infiniti Q50 lol. The car really has everything I need and most things I wanted. CD player, USB, Bluetooth phone (no Bluetooth audio though, weird) A/C, power windows and locks. The car is very comfortable for me (5'7" and 170lbs) and also very quiet inside. It handles road imperfections pretty well, it gets a little jittery over really bad potholes but for the most part it rides very nice. The shifter is just your average economy car shifter, the throws aren't too long but they're not Honda short and precise either. The S only has 4 speakers which aren't bad but if you're an audiophile the sound quality will get to you eventually Fuel economy is great, I'm getting 37.5 mpg on mostly highway driving but that comes at the cost of engine power. This car is not fast at only 130hp but it's not horrendously slow either for day to day driving. Don't have your expectations set too high and you won't be disappointed. Again, I'm coming from an old Chevy truck. I paid $15,600 for it out the door and I am very very happy with the car. I have 26,000 miles on the car so far (I drive 100 miles round trip for work each day) and the engine and transmission are flawless. I do change the oil with Mobil 1 0w20 and rotate the tires every 5,000 miles. There is a recall going on right now with the B17s with rear drum brakes making creaking noises at low braking speeds. The S does have rear brake drums and mine started making noise last month. I took it to the dealership and they replaced the wheel cylinders on both sides and flushed my brake fluid at no charge. The noise was gone after that. I am very happy with this car, hope to at least get 10 years of service out of it. If you're getting one for $14 otd, pull the trigger and don't look back. Best of luck.
