Disclaimer: These instructions are provide for your reference, I am not responsible for any damage that may result should you following these instructions to perform the navigation bypass. It is your responsibility to ensure that the instructions provided are correct and accurate for your vehicle.
Parts Needed:
(1) Rocker Switch (SPST Circuit, ON-NONE-OFF Action)
(2) Female Disconnects
(3) Butt Connectors
(4) 18-22 gauge wire 4 feet should be sufficient
Download the AV (Audio, Visual & Navigation System) service manual and navigate to page 369 (Navigation with Bose)
Follow the instructions on how to remove the AV control unit.
Navigate to page 263 and examine Connector No. M108. You will want to locate this wire on the harness that connects to the back of the Navigation unit. You will need to locate wire #18 Speed Signal Wire (Green)
Cut your 18-22 gauge wire in ½ so that you have (2) 2feet lengths.
Cut back enough of the plastic sheath to expose enough of the green Speed Signal Wire and cut it. Now either use butt connectors or solder and connect on one end of the green wire coming from the vehicle to the 18-22 gauge wire, repeat the same process for the other end of the green wire coming from the connector end.
At the other end of your (2) 18-22 gauge wire connect a female disconnect.
Determine where you are going to locate your button, in my instance I decided to place the switch next to the cigarette lighter so that my passenger or I could have access to it.
Follow the instructions to drill out the appropriate sized hole.
Now connect your two butt connectors to the silver tabs (typically labelled power /load) with my button there was ground which I initially tried but ended up disconnecting.
Flip the switch to the on position This will set the Speed Signal wire back to factory, now go for a test drive and as your driving down the road have your passenger navigate to the screen to enter in a destination address. Validate that the option to enter in an address is grayed out and not selectable. Now switch the button to the off position. The address button should now come back to life and should be selectable, validate your able to search for an address and set it as your new destination. Once you’re done you can switch the button back to the off position.
I have not noticed any GPS slowness while the navigation bypass button is in the off position.
Button Off Position = Speed Signal bypass for factory navigation
Button On Position = Speed Signal set back to factory navigation
Sorry I forgot to capture photos as I was doing this modification but its pretty straight forward.
