I've got right at 60,000 miles on my Rogue and it needed new tires. When I took it in to have the new tires put on (Sears), they said that the front left strut is leaking. I'm trying to verify all of the information they gave me:

- If you change one of the struts, you really should change both of them
- There are no suppliers for these struts other than Nissan
- Not replacing the struts will adversely affect the wear on my new tires

Can any of you verify any of these statements? Also, I asked my repair shop to see if they could find the parts, and they said that they could only find them from Nissan (at about $230/strut).

Here's a thread on the 1st gen that has some info, but doesn't all your questions. Strut blues

Yes if you change one you should do both. It keeps the vehicle level so one side with a worn out shock doesn't sag or wear your tires unevenly. And....

A bad strut will adversely affect tire wear.

I went to one of my favorite online parts stores rockauto.com, thinking I would provide you a link to several choices in front struts. Nada. Front strut catagory has nothing listed for a 2014 Rogue. Maybe they are telling you the truth. There are several Nissan dealers that sell online at a significant discount. You might try google and see if you can find the struts at one of those dealers and have them shipped to your door.

A leaking strut by the way usually has a telltale oily dust down one side of it. Easily verified by eyeballing the offending strut and wiping it with your hand to be sure there is oil involved.

Thanks for the responses. R1, I saw that other thread but wasn't sure how applicable it would be to the Gen2 Rogue.

I'll see what I can find online for these Nissan dealers and, hopefully, followingfront might be able to weigh in.

Again, thanks!

Thanks for the response Willdogs! I'm taking it tomorrow for my mechanic to take a look at them. I had sent him the first link so, if I do have to replace them, hopefully it will only be about $400 with labor.

Well, to close the loop on this thread, my mechanic says he saw no evidence of the strut leaking and that, if it had, I would definitely be able to tell (there would be noises from the strut since there would be less/no fluid in it). So, I guess I'll just roll with it as is!
