Didn't know what topic to stick this under... so I thought I'd start a new one.

Does anyone know how to make only the accessories stay on in the car for taking my Rogue to the drive in? I don't want the lights on to blind people and I want to be able to have the radio on for more than 2 minutes or whatever it is when you just hit the start button without your foot on the brake.

We're planning on having the tailgate open to lay back and enjoy the movies... but I'm worried the radio won't continue to play unless the car is running and I'd rather not do that for 5 hours.

Any ideas? Anyone take their Rogue out for the drive in yet this summer?

Thanks in advance!

I have the old version of the Rogue but on my other car activating the parking brake turns off the DRLs.

There is an off position for the lights on the turn signal stalk. As for turning on the radio, push the start button without stepping on the brake pedal. To turn it off push the start button twice.

If I do that, after 5 minutes the car warns it will turn off and then 1 minute later it turns off.

Sorry, wasn't aware of that. AFAIK, there's no way around it. It's designed that way to prevent battery drain. :frown:

Have you tried just pushing the radio button instead of the start button? It seems like pushing the start button turns on too many things...blower fan comes immediately to mind.

There are several little issues like this that I'd like to know if there is a trick to do it. I had a bi$%h of a time trying to listen to the radio while my Rogue was in N and turned off while it went through a car wash!!

I've also wondered if there is a way to turn off the power with the wiper blades at the top of their stroke so I can bend the arm away from the windshield (for washing, applying Rain-X, changing the blades, etc.).

They did add a way for that, just push it to the mist position a couple times really fast and they should raise up and stay in the replacement position. Car has to be on or within 1 minute of turning it off though.

Thank you for that! I guess I had never watched that video all the way through!

Actually if you push it twice to the mist position at anytime it will put them into service mode. found this out the other day when i was playing with them.

Well.... we went to the drive in... stayed for about 20 minutes and went home. In addition to the radio turning off after 5 minutes... the light in the hatch can't turn off. Guess we won't be taking that car to the drive in. Sometimes technology and luxury sucks!!

You could just cover the light with tape while at the drive in

True... but that would have the car's functions shut off even sooner to protect the battery. Also... it's a moot point as the radio won't stay on in the first place. That's the main issue. Good thing we have an old beater still to take!

The video for the intelligent key operation (YouTube line above) seems to indicate that there are a several ways to disable the 'battery saver' feather or otherwise extend accessory time w/ the engine off. One is to take the car out of park(?!). I suppose you could put in neutral w/ the parking brake on? Another way is to unlock the car w/ the remote after you've shut off the engine. The video indicates that will give you 1/2 hour of radio time. Or shut off the car and press the radio power button. Not perfect, but certainly better than 5 minutes. For the cargo light, I suppose you could yank out the bulb.

Who goes to the drive in to actually watch a movie?

I got the same problem...this is the solution
1 turn off your car
2 put the "parking brake"
3 push the brake and turn on the car

Ready - you should not have any lights - enjoy the movie

I just stumbled across this thread while trying to learn about replacing my rear wiper arm . . . LOL.

But for drive-ins . . . I've been taking a battery powered radio for years.

No car battery drain, so no need to start up the car at breaktime to charge up your battery.

RE: light . . . our old 1st Gen Rogue has a switch on the hatch light. But . . . can you remove the lightbulb?
