So I'm paying a little more than I'd like to monthly for my 2012 Rogue SL AWD... It's not too crazy, and I can currently afford it, but I just feel like if I don't HAVE to pay so much, should I be?

At the end of this year I can get out of my lease if I so choose... I love this car and the features (leather, HIDs, all around cameras, Nav, Bose, heated mirrors, etc) but I'm thinking I'd like to lower my payment by at LEAST $70 a month, and I'm looking at alternatives... Been scoping the Xterra Pro-4x online and that would be more than I'm paying now unless they drop some crazy incentives, so that may be out of the question.... Xterra S MAY work, but even the X 2WD right now is only about $30 less than I'm paying monthly and that's bare bones.... So I started thinking... What about the Rogue Select? Its basically a 2013 Rogue S Special edition...

I will lose my luxuries, but could *possibly* lower my monthly payment by close to $100 a month.... I will have a backup camera and that's about it... I do like how the 2014 Rogue Select has blackout headlights :rotflmao ..... But that's the only cool thing about it :tisk: .....

I can talk my dealer into getting catzkin leather for the seats if I wanted to, and some nice rims (black with an all-terrain tire just cause) but that may bring my payment up a little.... Knowing Nissan, they will still have some at the end of the year and *may* (because they've been slacking in this area) offer a nice rebate.... I can always retrofit the headlights to get HIDs (I will never use a pnp kit in halogen reflectors).

In your opinion- because some of you are more enlightened than me I'm sure- would it be worth it to you? Losing all the luxuries you enjoy in your vehicle to save approx. $1200 a year in payments? Just a philosophical question..... I guess...... lol

Interesting questions you pose. This may sound like a silly idea, but give it a try anyway. Get a legal pad, draw a line down the middle, then label one side PRO and the other CON. Keep things as practical as possible. Ask yourself how long do you intend to keep the vehicle? What if you had to keep it longer than intended? Would the extra creature comforts really add to your overall daily driving, or are they simply window dressing? If you could possibly save up to $1200 annually, could that be put to better use (emergency funds; vacation money)?

Take some time to weigh things out. Who knows, Nissan may run a great sales incentive program in the near future that meets your needs. :)

Thanks man... I am going to have to do that. What sucks is that because of the situation i was in when i got the car financially (excellent but very limited credit) I am paying probably $40 a month more than I should be. This time around Ill have enough of a credit history to qualify for top tier but with the new Rogue out (not many incentives) Ill probably be right where I am now if I got a new Rogue SV, let alone an SL. Technically my lease isnt up until 2016 but I can get out of it clean around Jan 2015 and I figured if I can save I should consider it. Ive still got time though...

Just some things Ive gotta think about.

That's a slippery slope. I'd venture to guess that most of us could get away with a Versa Note S and save ourselves a pile of money. Where you draw that line is basically a personal decision. One could argue the better option would be to purchase the car, instead of leasing, and drive all the value out of it (12-15 years or something).

Saving $70/month isn't really that much money IMO. A dinner out, less than 2 tanks of petrol, coffee and a donut on the way to work a few days a week for a month, one round of housecleaning from that illegal lady your neighbour uses. My personal inclination is that your $70 is worth the comfort and convenience features. After all, you likely spend an hour a day in your CUV, it may as well be someplace you'd like to be. Round view camera....how are you going to give that up?!

I mentioned thiws elsewhere.
The 2014 Rogue "Select" model IS the old style 2013 model. A little confusing. But you can tell by design in person.
Per my sales guy Nissan projected demand for the 2014 is greater than their current capacity (2014 made in Tenn plant in U.S.) so they are continuing to mfg the prev older 2013 design in Japan and calling it the "Select" (or I guess also the "S") model.
While cheaper that could have a big impact on resale.

P.S. I had the katzkin leather installed in my last car, ('08 Honda Fit. Great car but upholstery felt and looked like someone's gym shorts.) 6 yrs use and it looks good as new. I would do it again. Occasionally had to have the installer re-tuck\tighten from the back side though so make sure your installer offers free adjustments.

Yeah you have a point too. And having those cameras is great
