I just got a call from the dealer I purchased my 2014 Rogue from and there is already a recall/check on a steering column bolt. It needs to be inspected and changed if the wrong one was used. Has anyone else gotten a call or had this done yet?

Ek42,

Just read your post about the steering column. Let me tell you my story.

I bought my '14 Rogue SL AWD/Prm. Pkg. in December 2013. Pretty much since day 1 I noticed there was a sound coming from the steering wheel that could feel as well, like something was loose in *something* that had to do with steering of some sort. I wasn't sure how normal it was and since it didn't affect anything other than just the sound and feel, I didn't give it much more thought (other than being a little annoyed with it...I'm sensitive to noises that my car makes...neurotically!). Later on I noticed that I was having what seemed like an alignment issue with the car pulling to the left. It was soon time for my 7500 mile servicing and I thought when I turned it in for servicing, I would tell them about the steering wheel sounds and request a wheel alignment be done. Come to find out the steering column had to be replaced! No mention was given regarding the recall you were talking about and I didn't even know about a recall until I did my own search out of curiosity. I was probably not contacted for two reasons: 1) my model year production time period did not fall into the recall parameters, and 2) my issue may not have been the bolt problem at all. Who knows?

Well, after they installed the new steering column, the technician stated that an error code was indicated (code: 1602) and they had never seen this happen before. Had to contact Nissan and Nissan advised to order another steering column. (more wait time!! ) After putting in the new steering column, no codes were indicated and all was well again. Ever since, (well, since yesterday) it has not made any noises and could not be felt.

Kinda of scary reading about the bolt issue of the recall you mentioned. I have no idea if my repair was related or not. Nothing was indicated or mentioned that they were executing a recall repair. So any who...I noticed no one's reply was listed on this so I wanted to give my input. I will continue to monitor my steering system and hopefully this won't happen again. Have a great day!
