My wife's 2014 Rogue with about 77k miles has an intermittent noise coming from driver side rear wheel.. I finally heard it this morning on my way to work and it happened when just starting to accelerate from a stop while turning left. It was a fairly loud metal scraping/grinding noise that lasted a few seconds. To me it sounded like a bent rotor backing plate rubbing on rotor but like I said it stopped after a few seconds. And its intermittent. She also complained about hearing a "thumping rubbing noise" on occasion. I haven't heard that one yet.

I was planning on pulling the wheel later and look around but noticed a whole lot of CVT complaints on the internet with older models . Ugggg seems to be inevitable that CVT will act up at some point.
Any thoughts on how to proceed?

I had an odd noise coming from the rear of mine. I changed out the rear sway bushings and it made no difference, then I changed the rear differential fluid, (diy write up on this site) noise was gone.

A noise at the rear tire has nothing to do with the CVT.

Most likely is the rotor backing plate like you said. Gotta do the visual inspection first.

Pulled the wheel and all looks ok.. Spun it, and nothing rubbing. Very intermittent. I heard it one more time as i was pulling away from a stop making left turn and accelerating. It was loud.. Like a metal scraping that seemed to get fast as I accelerated.. Lasted about 5 seconds.. Really perplexing. Definitely rear but hard to tell its from wheel. What else? Cv joint rear diff. Ill change the rear diff fluid I guess and see if it noice stays away..

Could be the differential. Have you ever changed the diff oil?
How many miles on the car?

Change the diff oil and check for a lot of shavings. There will be a lot on the magnetic plug, but that's normal.

Have a look in the car jack cavity. The tow hook eye bolt came loose in our car and rattle around making sounds similar to what you describe.

Never changed it. There is about 72k miles on it. Looks like its a good first step and fairly easy so I will give it a shot. Ill try and take a pic of plug so someone can let me know if it look like a normal amount of shaving or if its something I should be more concerned about.

We do have the Geico new car repair warranty on it so I suppose if its something major at some point, we should be covered.

Still debating about selling it and leasing something similar or a bit smaller like an Encore. Still owe 6600 with a 300/month payment. If I can find a good lease deal on something similar and have a lower monthly payment, i may dump the Rogue. Im just growing tired of working on this stuff myself and I hate paying the man for things I know I can take care of myself.
