Hi all

I have noticed on the Rogue engine bay at the fenders that there is a big gap. These are normally closed off on other cars. Concern is that something could fall in, cause rattle and damage the outer skin. A mechanic tool, leaves or other debri can get in there. I asked two dealership and they could not give me a logical answer. One dealer mentioned that this is a standard Rogue design and is also from previous year models.

Has anyone with the older models years had issues on something falling in there and causing issues?

Thank you.

Hard to say, given this vehicle has only been on the market for barely a month. Two weeks ago my local dealership had just one in, they now have five, so it's not like there's a sizable number of people driving the new Rogue who can offer insight on things unique to this vehicle.

I think it should be fine. If you had seen the way cars were built back in the 70's you'd know this was no big deal. Back then cars were designed to look bigger so there were lots of gaps like your describing, and it wasn't an issue. In the case of the newly redesigned Rogue it's most likely done as a weight saving measure.

Hi all.
The gap i am referring to is under the hood inside the engine bay. Both sides of fender on top where hood meets. They used brackets instead of closing this off. The dealer says this is the same as 2013 Rogue.
I dont have my Rogue yet since the local dealer here dont have the trim package we want. Ill take a pic on my next trip, we still need to test drive on uphill road.
Thanks

there a 5hit-ton places (on EVERY car) something (tools, leaves, debris) could fall into, and cause damage of some form. i think this thread is running it course; especially without pics and or photo evidence explaining faulty engineering on Nissans' behalf. and you guys know me, i am always ready to rip some Nissan @ss about faulty engineering - but in this thread, i just dont see it(literally lol)

what the designers did was raise the fenders, to be taller - but left the framing of the car the same. that created more gaps between unibody and the fenders. its pretty ugly, and could start accumulating crap for sure. the gap is more prononouced than in earlier models for sure. take a look at my car below

I guess it's possible. Just out of curiosity, how much in the way of debris did you find when you pulled yours apart? Was there any significant leaf damage?

i see the sarcasm lololol but to be fair, ours are designed MUCH better. seems the wide open gaps in the '14 model are wider than a whales mouth. :rotfl

this is the dirt that came out, when i took my fender off. you can see it on the ground:

This is from a 2013, the 2014s have wider gaps.

Question- How do you clean or recover should anything fall in there?

either remove the fender, or get a telescopic magnet.

You have to play Operation before you can work on your Rogue :rotfl

Well, I guess that means I better not park our Rogue out under trees with the hood open on windy days in Autumn!
