No matter what climate control setting I use, I can't seem to get any air coming out of the rear vents. And yes, the vents are open :)

I could not find any information about this in the manuals. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this issue and how did you fix it?

Thanks,
Ash

Try closing the front vents on the dash. Then make sure you have the upper vents selected and the fan on high(auto setting only heats the foot wells). If you still don't feel air coming out of the rear vents, then it's time for a trip to the dealership.

The auto A/C system is actually pretty sophisticated, as in there's a lot of adjustments that happen in the background based on various factors.

For example, it has logic to vary fan speeds based on sun load so it will for example "speed up" the blower slightly when the sun is detected so you don't suddenly feel warm and have to increase the blower or lower the temp setting to feel comfortable. It can also lower blower speeds temporarily when you're changing modes so you don't get the "whoosh" as the actuators open/close to direct air to the selected vents. Also, the system when in auto can vary the air outlet based on temperature, so colder air favors the upper vents while warmer air favors the foot.

When you are trying to operate the heater, it minimizes blowing cold air in your face if coolant hasn't warmed up to sufficient temps. So say you are in the dead of winter and you start a cold engine, the system can suspend the blower motor for up to 2.5 minutes regardless of what fan speed you select because the heater core hasn't warmed up yet and running the blower would be the equivalent of blowing ice cold air in your face or at your feet. As coolant warms up, the blower motor speed gradually increases (all behind the scenes) as it determines that the air blowing out of the vents is able to be warmer than the temp inside the vehicle.

ashwinde, I'm going to take a guess that you were trying to run the heater and it was fairly cold.

Right after starting the car and when the engine is cold (to maximize effect):
- Take the system off auto
- Select the vent mode "face only"
- Turn the temperature dial all the way down so it should blow cold
- Turn the blower fan speed all the way up so you should have max air flow

See if you have air flowing out of the rear face (not floor) vents. If you don't, wait up to 2.5 minutes in case the blower is suspended due to it being too cold. Now, slowly raise the temperature dial and I expect that you should notice the air flow decrease. As the engine coolant warms up, the air flow will increase on its own ... remember, its goal is to provide heat, not blow cold air in your face and make you colder than you already are :)
