My 14 rogue starting noise in engine room. I replace drive belt last year(50,000 mile) at dealer.
I trying to replace drive belt auto-tensioner(60,000mile now), but has problem.
If you see my pictures below. I used ratchet spanner wrench 17inch.
It was worn my hexagonal part.

What kind of tool should I use to turn drive belt auto-tensioner?
Manual says "using suitable tools", But I do not know what is it.

I’ll look at mine in the morning but I think that is just a roller pulley. The belt just rides on it, is that what you’re replacing? It looks like it has oil/grease around the center which probably means the bearing inside is failing or already failed. The center bolt is removed using a Torx socket.

Of course that is a cheap Chinese piece of crap tool but you get the idea. Buy a decent set you don’t need a Mac or Snapon but at least get something that will be replaced free if you break it.

Thanks Jarhead,

I spread wd40 on that. that is why it has oil/grease.

Do not remove the pulley while it's under tension!
This is dangerous, and is also not the correct way to go about this as the tensioner is an assembly, including the pulley.

I see just two bolts to remove/replace the assembly

I suspect the hex nut is needed to release tension to remove the belt, though I see it's rounded in your picture. If a six-point socket won't fit, try a 12-point, or perhaps try large channel locks. From what I see in the picture of the part, you don't have to worry about doing further damage to the bolt as it's included in the new part.

Ok so I had to replace the front brake rotors and pads on my Rogue this morning. New Brembo rotors and Bosch pads.

When I took the right front tire off that pulley was just slightly behind the inner fender liner. Mine is different than yours no torx socket but a regular hex head bolt. I think now we can understand “use appropriate tool” apparently they used different suppliers.

Mr Steve is right you should not need to remove that pulley separately, there should be three hex head bolts, probably 14mm, holding the entire tensioner on. You will need to remove those so the tensioner comes off as an assembly. Sometimes it’s good to have the new part in hand so you can see what it looks like and the location of the bolts and how it fits.

I have looked at your first pic again and also the part schematic that Steve linked to. It looks to me like there are 2 bolts instead of three. In your first pic one of them appears to be at about 11 o’clock and the other at 4 o’clock just visible in your first pic. Again it is handy when unfamiliar to have the new part in hand to verify the location of the bolts that need to be removed.

I’m not sure the bolt that you have rounded off is part of the tensioner.

I second that you need to remove the belt before going any further.

I believe it's visible in the diagram of the URL I posted and is just north of the pulley. I would think that's the means for releasing tension. Funny thing is the factory service manual makes no mention for how to perform the procedure other than to say replace the tensioner assembly if the wear indicator is outside the limits shown in the one diagram provided.

I believe you’re right, upon closer inspection of the diagram it does appear to be part of the tensioner assembly but does not appear to be one of the bolts that hold the assembly to the engine.
