So, to wrap up the 3-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday here, the wife and I (along with her cousin who's staying with us) headed down to Shenzhen to catch the tail end of the auto show. Due to GPS issues, we only made it for the last two hours of the show, so I didn't get to see everything. Due to the obnoxious behavior of Chinese people in crowds, I didn't get that many photos, either. Anyways, here's what I posted to my Flickr account:

Image

The first display I reached was the Ferrari booth, and, save for the 458 closest to the camera, I couldn't find a single photographable line. They're ugly. It's not even a matter of seeing the forest through the trees; the whole car, composited of ugly lines, are still ugly. I couldn't imagine wasting thousands of dollars on something that ugly, unless it were somehow redeemably cute or silly. But these are no Nissan Jukes. They are just the mean, ugly stepsisters of the 458's Cinderella.

And for those who desire a close-up...

The new IS, or as I'm calling it, "Just Lexus It:"

I'm not sure why Citroen decided to put its race car in a restricted area, but they did. Must be a French thing.

Honda's got the right idea.

Nissan's girls at the information counter, waiting.

Agree about the Ferrari. I've never been a big fan of them as a whole

Really, you'd think they could at least make it ugly and interesting. The Pontiac Aztek had that on them. But those Ferraris are bland, misshapen bits of goo, that, yeah, go fast, but so are the smashed bugs on my windshield.

Well-said, Isaac. Not a car in that Ferrari pic I'd pay more than $50k for.

The new Lexus front-end treatment is so gauche, it's painful. Pathetic, really.

The Esflow is promising, and likely the direction for the new Z.

Sort of explains why my wife has informed me that she wants one. I think it would look better if its giant grille was not shiny. Kind of like this one:

The 458 is the only Ferrari that's ever caught my eye and the hook is set. I would have liked a closeup of the Aston, not the bony chick. :frown:

I also agree. When I first saw the IS250's front end pic, after making sure I was done wretching, I thought Nike had made a weird cross-marketing deal with Lexus, 'cause those trim lights look a bit too much like their logo.

Looked like a fun show.

The IS has finally become a competitive sport sedan. It's too bad it's visually offensive.

The Nissan booth girls look nervous.

You'd be nervous too if there was a gun pointed at your head to say you love CVT. ;)

It was like that way at every booth. There were two or three girls there to... make sure you could reach the brochures on the table in front of them, I guess.

I only really had one close-up shot of the Aston. I don't think it can be overstated how difficult the crowds made it to take photographs.

Here's a close-up of the white behind the brown, and the blue four-door in the corner:
