Hi All,

I have searched the forum for topics similar to this and cannot find anything that matches the issue I am experiencing. First of all, I have a 2013 Nissan Rogue SV AWD. It has 67,000 miles on it and it has been a great SUV for my wife and I so far. However, under braking (heavy, light or moderate) the rear seat falls down. I have messed with the latch and cannot fix it. Also I have taken it to one dealer and they found nothing wrong. Any ideas on what is causing this? It mainly happens to the rear seat on the driver side but occasionally will occur on both sides. Normally this wouldn't bother me but we are expecting and I don't feel comfortable putting a baby seat back there with this issue going on.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Your best bet is to keep this as a beater car (to and from work) and get a Honda as the family vehicle (maybe go with the Odyssey or the Pilot). There should be a solution for this issue, other than getting a new car, as more likely some of the latches that holds the seats might have worn out from constant folding of the seat or it might have been defective. Try to see if the parts department from your local dealer has the parts and take it to an indie mechanic... shouldn't be that expensive (compared to the transmission and engine rebuild). However, I am scratching my head around on why did you mess with the latches in the first place?

The little latch may be sticking. Try spraying with some wd40 and working the latch a bit. Be very careful not to get any spray on your upholstery. Something sticky or gummy may have been spilled or gotten into the latch mechanism.

Thanks for the suggestions. To clarify, I only started messing with the latches after I noticed the issue and the dealer told me there is nothing wrong with it. I was trying to see if something was stuck or blocking it but I have had no luck.

Such an obvious thing to do and of course it had completely slipped my mind. I will give this a try and see if it works. Thanks!

The seat belts sometimes get in the way of slamming the rear seats into the locked upright position. Seat belts are useless anyway lol.

When I fold my seats back up I always give each of the locking/release pins a wack to make sure everything is latched. Maybe give that a try, or with the seat folded down examine the locking measure while you move the pin in and out to see if it's working. Check out the striker bar and make sure it isn't bent or loose. Everything Nissan and other Nissan OEM part sources sell the hardware if you determine something needs to be replaced.

I've found the Rogue to be an excellent family vehicle for a 1-kid family. Two might be pushing it for space.

The Rogue ain't bad for a two kid family, as all 4 people have enough space and have an arm rest... if its a 3+ kid family, then the Rogue is pretty much useless like every other CUV, sedan, coupe, hatchback, and pickup truck.
