I am hoping this is really nothing. I just bought my Rogue 3 days ago. Today the fuse panel popped off and as I was down on the floorboard putting it back on, I noticed rust/corrosion behind the gas and brake pedals. I plan on addressing it with the service department at the dealership I bought the car from Monday morning. Is this normal?

Yes, I have. I have also researched this extensively on the Internet the past couple days and, unless I missed it, I have not found the exact issue I'm having.

It is normal for metal parts that are not coated to protect them (or poorly coated), yes. For example, the nut that holds the passenger front seat to the floor rusted within 1 winter.

You are more than welcome to explore this through the dealer, and they might very well replace parts based on you having a bumper to bumper warranty. However, I think what you are experiencing is "normal" for the build quality exhibited by Nissan.

this is 1000000000000% normal. the thickness of the metal parts you took photos of, will require 50years to rust to the point where they cause problems.

dont forget, you step into snow, rain, etc and then carry the humidity into the car. the wet rugs then evaporate that onto whatever is cold (that steering shaft goes outside the car through the firewall) and that shaft develops condensation.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad to know it's normal! I'm loving my new ride! I did take it to the dealership where I bought the SUV and they said the same thing. They also confirmed there was rust underneath as well but said it's just surface rust.

I would like to add that this vehicle is only 3 years old so that's ultimately why I was concerned. It just seemed a little much for not that old of a vehicle.

crawl under your car, and you'll find all sorts of rust. its the nature of the beast. the only thing you need to worry about rusting is the painted surfaces. everything else is just going to happen.
