I’ve never had a vehicle that doesn’t do that little drop in rpm when the ac cycles on. What is happening is the ac requires the engine to work harder by increasing the load. It is most noticeable at idle. If you’re cruising down the road at a steady rate, shut the ac off for a few moments and watch what happens to the rpm needle.
The engine will quickly compensate for the additional load and bring the idle back up to the computer controlled specification. That’s what you’re hearing/feeling.
Because of the increased load that’s why your vehicles fuel mileage is not as good with the ac on all or most of the time.
